Netflix is getting into the Christmas spirit. The streaming platform is expanding its holiday content with new Hallmark holiday movies. The media giants are joining forces to make your holidays bright.

Stream Hallmark Holiday Movies

Hallmark continues to be the home for holiday movies. As many as 50 movies are set to premiere on the Hallmark Channel in 2024 alone. New shows will also be available on the Hallmark Mystery and its new streaming platform, Hallmark+.

Finding Hallmark’s movie might be more difficult if you don’t have a cable subscription. Some of those movies might leave Peacock. However, new movies can be watched live and on-demand three days after their release.

On November 1, Netflix welcomed new Hallmark holiday films such as A Bitmore Christmas, Christmas on Cherry Lane, A Heidelberg Holiday, Miracle in Bethlehem, and A Merry Scottish Christmas. You can read the entire list via Showbiz CheatSheet.

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without carol singing, right? Directed by Stephen Donnelly and starring Luke Evans, Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley in lead roles. Scrooge: A Christmas Carol is a Netflix musical animated movie. An adaptation of Charles Dickens novel Holiday Chestnut, the story centres around Ebenezer Scrooge, a selfish miser who is presented with an opportunity to fix his past mistakes and improve his future by an unexpected guest.

Holiday Home Makeover with Mr. Christmas

Netflix’s Holiday Home Makeover with Mr. Christmas is a lighthearted drama about an interior designer featuring Benjamin Bradley as Mr. Christmas.

Martin McDonagh’s tragicomedy The Banshees Of Inisherin leads this year’s London Film Critics Circle nominations with nine nods, followed by Charlotte Wells’ acclaimed debut Aftersun, which nabbed eight nominations.

Both films clocked nominations for Film of the Year, British/Irish Film of The Year, Director of the Year, and Screenwriter of the Year. The two films also clocked multiple acting noms, with Paul Mescal picking up a Best Actor nod for his role in Aftersun. Frankie Corio, who plays his daughter in the pic, is nominated for Young British/Irish performer. Banshees stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively.

Elsewhere, Todd Field’s high-art drama Tár and Everything Everywhere All at Once by The Daniels both scored six nominations. The Best Foreign Language category features five pics, including the Irish-language drama The Quiet Girl and Alice Diop’s fiction debut Saint Omer.

As might be expected, they “led local,” with the highest number of nominations going to Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” and Charlotte Wells’ “Aftersun.” The McDonagh film, which stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, is set on an island of tall tales off the west coast of Ireland. Martin McDonagh’s dark comedy The Banshees Of Inisherin has received the most nominations for the 43rd London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, with nine, including film of the year, director of the year and screenwriter of the year.

McDonagh last triumphed at the 2018 awards, with Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri winning three awards: best film, best actress for Frances McDormand and best screenwriter for McDonagh.

This review originally ran September 4, 2022, in conjunction with the film’s world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival.

For a movie that’s supposed to be a love letter to cinema, among other things, it’s surprising how little the magic of movies genuinely registers as a vibe in Sam Mendes’ “Empire of Light,” a frustratingly uneven and often meandering period drama written by Mendes, loosely drawing remembrances from his own formative years.

And he pulls from “a lockdown mindset,” too, as the director put it before his ’80s-set film’s world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, a melancholic state of being marked by feelings of loneliness and even fear that things we love (like movie theaters) would be lost forever in a post-pandemic world.

Perhaps because his inspirations seem to be so extensive here, it often feels like Mendes is searching for a story within a bottomless well...

Relatively true to the original text, with its numerous musical numbers it is a charming adaptation of the classic.

In this movie the story and its moral of the story are conveyed in an entertaining narrative style, with the right amount of humor and at a measured pace. A truly well-executed screenplay that clearly counts on a budget and the means to pull it through convincingly.

It’s almost the holiday season, which means that millions of travelers will soon find themselves in distant family members’ living rooms while Netflix blares on the TV. What Netflix shows and movies will be featured on those television sets? We now have a better idea as Netflix has released its list of new releases for December 2022.

It’s safe to say that movies are set to dominate this month. There is the usual holiday fare like Scrooge: A Christmas Carol on Dec. 2 but overall Netflix looks to be trying to end the year strong with some big ticket titles. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio arrives on Dec. 9. That will be followed by Rian Johnson’s next Benoit Blanc detective story, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, on Dec. 2. It’s hard to tell exactly whether Netflix’s new animated version of Charles Dickens’ Yuletide classic is geared to very young children who respond to sensory overload or drugged-out college students looking for sensory overload.

In either case, Scrooge: A Christmas Carol delivers it in spades, providing a turbocharged rendition of the tale aimed for maximum visual impact. A very loose remake of the live-action 1970 musical Scrooge starring Albert Finney, this version also features songs from that film composed by two-time Oscar winner Leslie Bricusse.

Director Stephen Donnelly has promised to provide “psychedelic, time-traveling and musical surprises” in this umpteenth version of the oft-dramatized tale, and he lives up to his word, for better or worse. Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is one of the most adapted and re-interpreted stories ever. There have been numerous popular incarnations. They include a Jim Carrey animated film from Robert Zemeckis, a Muppets version, a Bill Murray parody, a TV movie starring Patrick Stewart, and there’s already a satirical musical comedy with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell premiering this year titled, Spirited. Netflix will now be releasing its own CGI-animated musical with Scrooge: A Christmas Carol.

Netflix’s animated adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “Scrooge: A Christmas Carol” has gotten a trailer and a release date.

The animated feature, which is set to debut on the streamer on Dec. 2, features the voice of Luke Evans (“Beauty and the Beast”) as Scrooge as well as Olivia Colman (“The Crown”), Jessie Buckley (“Men”) and Jonathan Pryce (“The Crown”).

The animated film is described as a “supernatural, time-travelling, musical adaptation of the definitive Christmas story,” according to the synopsis. “With his very soul on the line, Scrooge has but one Christmas Eve left to face his past and build a better future.”

Netflix has announced its full fall movie slate, including release dates for a number of films that will be opening in select theaters before they’re on the streaming service.
