The variety show that Monica plays in the movie is a mixture of different varieties she did with Hasse Alfredsson and Tage Danielsson. The venue, China Teatern (The China Theatre) and the actor with the turban is a reference to Gula Hund (Yellow Dog) from 1964. The musicians with the red sport coats are from the 1976 variety Svea Hund and lastly the number Monica performs ("Vad en liten gumma kan gno", roughly translated "What a little [old] lady can work") is from "Glaset i Örat" (The Glass in the Ear) from 1973.
The film depicts several events in Monica Zetterlund's life in a much shorter time span than they actually occurred, making it impossible to say when it actually takes place. However, the Swedish switch from left- to right-hand traffic (3 September 1967) could be noticed as cars are driving on the left-hand side in almost the entire film, except in the last scene, when they have switched.
Kjell Bergqvist has worked with real life Monica Zetterlund in the TV drama Katitzi (1979). Their respective characters was brother and stepmother to the main character Katitzi.
Lead actors, Edda Magnason and Sverrir Gudnason are both Icelandic, although, Edda is only half Icelandic.
Despite winning multiple accolades for her performance as Monica Zetterlund, Edna Magnason would not return to acting again for the next seven years. She then appeared in the Viaplay series Roslun & Hellstrom: Box 21 (2020).
