I wanted to like 'Hidden', I really did. I couldn't help but find myself comparing it to '10 Cloverfield Lane', one of the best movies of 2016, and ultimately finding it inferior in almost every way. The biggest problem was the characters. I couldn't care about any of them. I understand they were in a dire situation, but they were still shown to have almost zero personality. Having them give a well written speech about "miracles" and "appreciating what you have" is pointless if the rest of the time is them being miserable and depressed. Then you consider the fact that they're ultimately being incredibly selfish, and you have yourself a very weak part of the movie.
The second problem lies in the pacing. At only 83 minutes it's a very short film, and yet it feels a lot longer than that. There is no more sure sign of a fine film than when the time seems to have flown by. Conversely however, there is no more sure sign of a poor film than when time seems to be crawling along and you are constantly checking your watch. This was the latter. The early scenes in the shelter are painfully slow, and by the time the action kicks in it's impossible to care enough for it to be interesting.
There is some good acting and a so-so twist that boost it up a few points, but ultimately there's not a lot here. Watch '10 Cloverfield Lane' instead, if you haven't already.
