This movie is about as racist as a ministrel blackface show and about as sexist as a... random rap video, I guess...
And 20 solid minutes of it are rappers lipsynching to their not very good 'let me on touch that booty booty booty, hoe' songs, I'm not sure what that genre is called but yeah I'm not a fan of that specific sub-genre of rap, IE which was popular for a couple years in the 2010's...
I was surprised when I saw at the credits that Nick Cannon directed and wrote it, I imagined he would be above stereotyping black people this way but I guess not...
It's not all bad, child star Bobb'e J Thompson from Role Models still has some likability factor about him as a teenager and it was nice to see Wilmer Valderama from That 70's Show and Efren Ramirez from Napoleon Dynamite in 2 different roles, albeit very stereotypical latino ese gangsters...
I was surprised that they didn't throw in a bunch of geeky white people since it was so thriving on stereotypes...
Anyway, the movie is dumb as dirt but somehow it managed to entertain slightly occasionally so yeah I'll slip it a 5, but I can perfectly understand if people hate it, and to be frank, most probably will

I can never get enough of Kevin Hart, Luenell, Mike Epps, Katt Williams, & Tiffany Haddish! A welcomed addition to the comedy was Lil' Duvall! Great team! But, the booty dancing & lip syncing for what seemed like every 5 minutes was too much! The movie was "School Dance" not "Dance School"! I was sick of watching what was supposed to be teenagers twerking constantly! The comedy was so much more fun!! Still worth it to watch and it was really nice seeing the young man from "Role Models" grown up, Bobbe J Thompson! He did great in his lead role! However, if you are into dancing and hip hop music, this is definitely the movie for you!! Beware, there are many references to race and cultural biases. Sorry if that is considered a spoiler.

School Dance is a 2014 American comedy-drama musical film directed, written, and produced by Nick Cannon (Host of America's Got Talent, Wild 'n Out, Chi-raq). The film stars Bobb'e J. Thompson (Role Models, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Kevin Hart (Think Like a Man, Ride Along), Mike Epps (Next Friday, The Hangover), Amber Rose, Affion Crockett ( Dance Flick, Pixels),Luenell (All About Steve, Think Like a Man), Kristina DeBarge ( Former American Idol Contestant, Televisions Growing Up Hip – Hop), Katt Williams (Norbit, First Sunday), George Lopez (Balls of Fury, Rio), and Wilmer Valderrama (That '70s Show, Larry Crowne) The film was released on July 2, 2014 in select theaters, V.O.D, and Digital HD. This is also Cannon's directorial feature film debut. This film has a remarkable cast of talent, and honestly this movie isn't that good. On the other hand, it's a guilty pleasure of so bad that it's good.
I'm aware that maybe one or two (or more) brain cells are dying as I watch this. But I didn't mind, I actually watched the film in its entirety. This film is fueled by sex jokes, stereotypes revolving around black and Mexican-American lifestyles; This hip-hop-infused musical movie features a gallery of notable comedians. Nick Cannon may not be the best director or writer. However, damn he can gather the talent! (If you want to call them talent)
Even though this film is loaded with stereotypes, sex jokes, and brain cell melting vulgarity. There is at least an element of sweetness to the film in our lead character Jason, played by Bobb'e J. Thompson, a low self-esteem and less than well-endowed virginal high school student who has a hopeless crush on his beautiful classmate Anastacia, played by Kristinia DeBarge, who barely knows he exists. His only hope to impress her is to join the school's hottest "clique" and help them win a hip- hop, "Lock-In" dance competition, which offers a $2,000 prize.
To be honest, a majority of the acting is so bad and over the top it's actually funny. Jason's mother, played by Luenell, is so outrageous, over –bearing, gun shooting, and loud you can't help but watch how much worse she or her character can get. Also, the pot-smoking principal, played by Mike Epps is so cartoonish it's hard to take him or anyone else in the movie seriously.
Cannon also infuses the proceedings with various stylistic devices, including on screen graphics and freeze-frames, to mostly negligible effect. In addition, while Thompson and DeBarge are appealing, the veteran comic performers in the supporting cast are unable to rise above the cartoonish material. What makes films like Dope, Super bad and American Pie so memorable are at the end of the day we can relate to the characters. Another big issue I have with the film is a majority of the cast that's in high school don't look like high school students. Amber Rose is in high school? Seriously? (That's a nice high school).
I know this movie is so bad that it's funny. Even though I don't think that's the intent. Nevertheless, it was so obvious, that the featuring endless scenes of leering shots of beautiful young women shaking their booties, and all the other goodies God gave them into the camera are only there to include the numerous music designed to provide the filmmaker the opportunity to contribute to the soundtrack. The slow- motion erotic car-washing scene is not even that offensive to women, because the males in this movie are just as badly and equally portrayed if not worse. (Car wash scene I'm not complaining).
So these are my final Bitchin' Buddha thoughts on the film School Dance. I know it's a bad movie, but I did have some fun even if it was for the wrong reason. At the end credits, I am indicating that the film was much more fun to make than to watch. At the end of the day, I'm glad I came across it. Even though I do not need to come across it again or any time soon. I wouldn't mind seeing what Nick Cannon does next. I believe School Dance earns a

There's like 4 funny scenes. The rest of the movie is terrible. Save yourself some time and watch the funny bits on YouTube.

I don't understand how this movie has an EXCELLENT staff of comedians, yet movie didn't meet my expectation. wasn't that good. Kevin hart, Lil Mexican dude/beanie& Luelle was only 1to make me laugh, and there was sum funny actors here. nick cannon sucks period.its like he tried make it real funny but made it real corny.. and for high school, WAY2 MUCH sexual content, booty popping hoes really...high school was full of hoes, n players but not no VIDEO HOES ON GROUPIE crap.it was like a rap music video that's it..actors cant act, obvious audio over lip singing /rap/like wen they rap n freestyle . i'm sorry ..failed. who r these rappers anyway, i really wanted to like it but i don't. kelvin hart was only reason i watched again overall that high school scene more like a music video event w/ groupie hoes...too sexual too corny PS; family guy's Joe, hes hilarious, but he isn't memorable in here =[

Nick Cannon directs School Dance, a coming of age comedy. In it Jason is enamored with Anastacia and would do anything to stand out and be noticed in her world. This movie has some funny parts but feels like it is a mix of bits with a bunch of every stereotype imaginable. A cameo by many well known stars, even the current "it" comedy guy Kevin Hart. Mike Epps plays a funny quirky horny principle Rogers and George Lopez is the domineering Latino dad. A peek to the simpler times of high school, when all guys wanted to do was hook up and girls wanted to feel special. The crescendo of the movie is the one night of true debauchery, the school dance. Seems like a blend of other past greats like House Party and Friday. Makes you glad you are no longer a teenager and just be grown and sexy. Take a trip back to high school and watch School Dance. I am sure you will at least get a few laughs out of this movie.
It was a nice little R rated teen comedy. If you like Nick Canon and his style of comedy, than this should be a good one for you (I'm assuming, cause I'm not familiar with his comedy)
Mr. Mariah Carey's directorial debut is a formulated story about Jason, the uncool kid who wants to be cool and get a date with his dream girl who does not even know he's alive. I could tell you more, but when you've seen one teen comedy you seen them all, so you know what happens.
The most unique thing about the movie is the prominently black cast (which is kind of shameful to say in this day and age). I've already herd some negative feedback on the black stereotypes that are flowing through the movie, but I feel that this judges the movie unfairly cause every white teen comedy has it's own negative stereotypes as well.
But I must admit, the black stereotypes are pretty blunt and constant throughout the film which may make it a turn off if you're not black or Latina. The movie could have used more high school stoner jokes which is general enough to crossover to any race. Like Mac & Devin go to High School starring Wiz Khalifa, whose wife Amber Rose has a role in this movie.
The biggest problem I have with the movie is that if feels like a variety show more than a movie. Every scene feels more like a sketch or a stand up bit come alive, than a continuing story, which should not be such a big concern cause the whole thing is funny and I should cut the first time director a break. It doesn't help that a small part of the movie is interjected with scenes that act like music videos for music groups I'm not young and hip enough to vibe with. It's been a while since I've seen a recent music video, but I seems all the females in the movie are just video vixens not exactly hired for their acting skills
It was cool to see the large amount of super star comedians who have supporting roles in the film. Most notably of course was super star Kevin Hart. It was cool that Kev and others had enough love for Nick to come out and do a small role in his small low budget movie.
It was a funny film all in all, and I could not help but to laugh throughout this so-so put together black teen comedy (Nick Canon forces you to and I love that about the film). Then again, I laugh cause I got all the jokes.

I enjoyed this movie so much but i would definitely not recommend anyone under the age 15 to watch this movie lol. This move is an American musical comedy about a teen Bobb'e J. Thompson and how he hopes to impress a girl by getting into the most popular dance clique in school by winning his spot in the school dance, This film had a great cast and is extremely underrated.

This movie was very funny to me i'm so shocked at the rating and disappointed. Yes the plot was simple and silly but most comedies these days are.
This movie reminded me of a Friday movie in so many ways(even some of the characters had the same names) but with High School kids, but they did their thing and carried the movie well and and the veterans were just side characters but really took over when they were on camera Mike Epps, Kevin Hart, Affion Crockett, Katt Williams all did their thing in this movie and were hilarious. The music and the dancing also added a another piece to it and it was all songs i've never heard but were jamming i really liked it.
Can't understand why black comedies get such a low rating it really sucks i'm not going into detail about that and just keep it light, but i found it way funnier than some bigger budget box office movies.
But yeah if you like movies like Friday, Napoleon Dynamite, and Superbad with real funny characters and silly plots you should like this

Only a couple funny parts, with kevin hart's clique, rest of the movie was cringey (especially the talent show) and that girl with the shaved head is so weird looking ew....
Might be good if you're crazy high on something otherwise just don't waste you're time OR lower your expectations thinking you'll watch a "throw back" movie cause it is clearly putting "famous" names on a piece of trash to get an audience.

The real distaste for this movie is that none of the "it girls" were black yet all the guys were. Nothing wrong with so called inter-racial dating but to me the movie made it seem that black women aren't desirable. Totally unacceptable

I don't know if it's possible to make a movie worse than this. I don't think there was an actual script. It just seems like Nick Cannon found the least talented people and told them to act as awkward as possible.
Story: 1/10 The main character is obsessed with joining a dance group, or is it the pretty girl in class, or is it he's trying to score at the dance? I can't remember, it's not important anyway.
Acting: 1/10 It's like watching people read mad-libs to each other. It's so bad it's uncomfortable
Cinematography: 1/10 This movie was shot on an iPhone, not a new one either. 2 camera dialogue setup with one camera bipoded and the other handheld. I've seen YouTube videos with better consistency.

Never heard of the movie..just ran over it by accident checking actors profile of recent works and found this 2014 gem....many literally L-O-L moments, highly re-watchable, seen it at least 8 times since...everyone I have recommended it to loves it...even Nick Cannon..has his moments...that's saying a lot from me...watch it and laugh...go in with no expectations and you will love it...not too over the top cheap laughs...just good old comedy.. Good to see Kevin Hart...I'm sorry..I mean Pretty O.G. Little Thug, along with Katt Williams and Mike Epps all under one roof. Young actors also did their thing. If you are expecting a high big budget comedy, don't it is quite good just the way it is. A lot of good one liners and just fun all around.

Nick Cannon really outdone himself on this teen comedy! I wish I had lived my high school years like this, because I would be laughing non-stop! LOL! From Mike Epps as Principal Rogers, Luenell as the gun-toting, foul- mouthed, and STILL CARRYING Sky-Tel pagers Mama Tawanna! Katt Williams and Kevin Hart, who light up rooms with their presence, no matter where they go! The humor of this movie was 100%! It didn't come to the movie theaters here on the east coast, so I saw it on Pay-Per-View. I'm sure if it did, teens would love it! I'm 39, and this movie had me laughing all the way through it! I will definitely purchase this on DVD when it comes out, because it takes me back to my high school days, which are the best days of your life. Nick Cannon, I give you a thumbs up on this one!

Many people will love this movie, nobody knows comedy better than Nick Cannon. He did a good job for choosing the actors to be in this movie. Like there is not one comedian, you won't love like Kevin Hart, Luenell, Katt Williams, Lil' Duval, George Lopez, Mike Epps, and more. This movie is ultimately awesome, had good rap music, some really touching romance, great ghetto comedy, a hilarious cast with good chemistry, good cameos. Definitely buying this movie on DVD and hoping for a sequel. And some fine ass chicks including Big Booty Becky and Anastacia, cutest girls in the whole movie. Nick Cannon did a good job as a director especially for a first movie, many teenagers and fans of the people in the movie will love this movie to be honest. I'm literally watching this movie for the third time like that's how obsessed i am with this movie. Just wish the movie was a bit longer and at least show some nudity. Let's just call this movie Nick Cannon's Verison of Animal House, Project X, and House Party.

Do I have to write down 10 lines. Hmm....it's classic comedies, that enough and quite entertaining for me. Nice..
It's not enough lines, need two more lines. What else, ummmm...quite shocking at the end of the movies, big mamma's got the gun. Lol, it's quite funny, I thought the movies not end yet..hahaaa...
Oh..I think it's already 10 lines. What's wrong, I know how to write. It is enough?lets..see.
Done.
