Things fell apart and love seemed to disappear between this couple and now the man has to leave, embarking on a trip overseas and the woman is all bitter listening to
old love songs. They know things would never be the same but on their last meeting at night in their apartment, they're gonna try to fix things up. Maybe they'll have a chance.
And a long day's journey into night, smokes and driking, they have plenty of conversations and remember moments from their past. That's the basic premise of "Os Sobreviventes" ("The Survivors") adapted from a short story by the late great Caio Fernando Abreu. A curious in-depth look at relatioships and the human frailty when it has to deal with a flawed marriage.
It's a sad yet cute tale about a mellow couple trying to figure out what went wrong with them, discussing theories about their past, at times questioning their sexualities hence why both are wrong for each other; but the ultimate goal is that he has to go, maybe he'll return but she doesn't believe him, and she doesn't want him to go.
It was a whole past built together, plenty of memories, emotions and affections and it all causes a turmoil when they are deeply analyzed in moments of crisis. I guess that there are plenty of moments here that people can relate with. And thanks to the nice performance from both actors that this makes up for a very interesting project to look at. 7/10.
