OK, I will admit, I know nothing about "The Cat's Eyes". This was my introduction to their characters. As a newcomer, I can tell that they are 3 sisters who secretly work as bandits, in sort of a Charlie's Angels style set up.
I am familiar with Lupin III, and this follows most of his usual plot beats. All his usual crew is here, along with detective Zenigata trying to catch them. The group find themselves going after 3 artifacts that combine to make some sort of MacGuffin. As Lupin puts it, it is "just your average run of the mill Nazi treasure.". It has all the double crosses, self-destruct sequences and chase scenes you'd want in a Lupin III adventure.
The two teams aren't given much time to work with each other. And Ai, the youngest member of Cat's Eye, sucks. Is she always just the incompetent one of the group? She is captured so easily all the time. If I were a big Ai fan, I would be really upset about how poorly she performed on this caper.
It is a solid adventure, but I am distracted by the animation style. I understand that this pseudo 3D/ 2D animation is a choice, but it did not work for me. I was fine with "Lupin III: The First", but this one did not seem to have the same level as polish as that previous entry.
The characters are still what hold the whole adventure together, but at the end of the day, this feels like another average run of the mill Lupin III adventure.
