The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the third announced earlier today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on ABC.
The network is changing up some of its serialized dramas - removing random repeats in favor of two "uninterrupted runs" of twelve episodes each (one in the fall, one in the spring) for shows like "Once Upon A Time," "Grey’s Anatomy," "Scandal" and "Revenge". The large gaps between the two half-seasons will be bridged by "limited series" designed around only 12-13 episode seasons.
Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen including the high-profile "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" rip-off "Gothica", McG's rip-off of Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet" entitled "Westside", the series based on Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain ride, the Annie Potts-led "Murder in Manhattan" about...

There will be a recasting on NBC‘s newly picked up comedy series The Family Guide, from DJ Nash. Parker Posey, who played the female lead in the pilot, won’t continue on the series. The project, written/exec produced by Nash, is about a son who idolizes his blind father (J.K. Simmons) and is bemused by his mother’s newfound adolescence who watches his family come closer together post-divorce. Posey played the mother. Technically, The Family Guide also doesn’t have a male lead at the moment as Simmons co-stars on the ABC series Family Tools. He is expected to be released soon as Family Tools will be cancelled.

ABC premiered another late edition to their Wednesday comedy lineup with "Family Tools." Kyle Bornheimer portrays Jack Shea, a bumbling doofus with a good heart who returns home to take over his father's handyman business. J.K. Simmons is as crusty as ever as Jack's dad, Tony, who isn't at all keen about his son taking over the family business. There’s a five or six year span somewhere around the late ’80s to early ’90s that has become known as a true Golden Age of sitcoms, and if the last two or three years can be said to have one absolute trend, it’s trying to update and recapture the formula that made those shows into the ratings behemoths they were. Not only are there interesting markers of public appeal like the fact that these Golden Age shows are becoming the staples of Nick-at-Nite and TV Land, but the surprisingly popular original programming on TV Land is clearly leading the way when it comes to this revival.
The bigger networks are adding their own efforts that, though decidedly updated in one way or another, aim to explore the possibilities still open by way of the general sensibilities and frameworks that worked so well for shows of the past.

The former "The King of Queens" star has a development deal with the network, and ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee asked her to be part of the comedy debuting 8:30 p.m. Edt on Wednesday.
Then Remini's mother weighed in.
"She said, `Who's in it?'" the actress recalled. After hearing the cast included J.K. Simmons ("Juno," "The Closer"), Remini's mom replied, "He's a real actor, Leah. You should do it."
"As opposed to me," Remini said, wryly. "He's real, he does drama."
Remini has made her career largely in comedy but her mom still can brag on her. Besides the 1998-2007 run opposite Kevin James in CBS' "King of Queens," Remini has worked steadily in a string of sitcoms including "Cheers" and "In the Motherhood." She was a co-host on "The Talk" for...

Family Tools debuted Wednesday at 8:30/7:30 (ABC) — will you make room for it on your workbench?
The comedy introduces the Shea family, whose patriarch Tony (The Closer‘s J.K. Simmons) suffers a heart attack and realizes he can no longer handle the family handyman business alone. One problem: The logical candidate, his son Jack (Perfect Couples‘ Kyle Bornheimer), is a chronic screw-up with a less-than-stellar career history. Everyone, naturally, is waiting for him to biff big-time in this latest pursuit.
Rounding out the cast are Leah Remini (King of Queens) as Jack’s Aunt Terry, Johnny Pemberton (21 Jump Street) as his cousin Mason,...

When ABC's newest sitcom "Family Tools" premieres on Wednesday (May 1), it'll mark Leah Remini's return to network comedy after her long-running CBS hit "King of Queens" went off the air in 2007. It's also the first time Remini's worked in a single-camera series, as opposed to the traditional three-camera series filmed in front of a live audience that she's used to.
Remini tells Zap2It that working without an audience took some getting used to. "It's very depressing because you don't have people laughing, you know?" she says. "It's like all you've got to do is smile at somebody in the audience or say hello or sign a script and [they scream] and you're like, 'I love this!' You get that validation, you know?"
Silence is golden on a single-camera set, something Remini likens to a funeral. "You're not allowed to laugh, no one can make a noise when you're filming,...

The blueprint: Assemble familiar character actors into an on-screen family, then nail it to one of the last new series of the television season.
Premiering Wednesday, May 1, the ABC sitcom "Family Tools" revolves around a passing of the torch as a heart attack forces veteran handyman Tony (J.K. Simmons, "The Closer") to turn his business over to his ne'er-do-well son Jack (Kyle Bornheimer, "She's Out of My League"). Though his aunt Terry (Leah Remini, "The King of Queens") offers Jack encouragement, he has much to prove as he sets out to move the family trade forward.
"Family Tools" is based on the British show "White Van Man." Writer-producer Bobby Bowman ("Raising Hope") did the Americanization and defines that title term as a "sort of fix-it guy. The direct translation would be 'jack-of-all-trades'; that's why I named (the central character) Jack. The British version was Ollie. I don't know any Ollies.

You know what we really don’t need? Another TV show about a wayward late 20s to early 30s-something who moves back home to live with his or her family. From the short-lived Ben & Kate to the cancelled $h*t My Dad Says, plenty of recent series have tried to mine the now-hackneyed “big kid moves back home to grow up” premise but few have managed to do it successfully (though ABC’s How to Live With Your Parents For the Rest of Your Life — which has the benefit of a Modern Family lead-in — has fared okay so far). Now,...

For some unknown reason, network TV executives are convinced that Kyle Bornheimer is destined to be a huge sitcom star. In 2008 he starred in CBS' Worst Week (cancelled after 16 episodes). In 2010 he starred in ABC's Romantically Challenged (cancelled after four episodes). And in 2011, he starred in NBC's Perfect Couples (cancelled after 11 episodes).
Now he's in ABC's new comedy Family Tools, premiering Wednesday, May 1 at 8:30pm. But surely this time he'll finally break through, right?...

Leah Remini is being sued by her former managers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In a lawsuit filed on Tuesday with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Remini's management company The Collective claims that they signed the actress to an oral contract in November 2011 and would then receive the standard 10 percent commission from her earnings. A month prior to the contract, Remini secured a talent holding deal at ABC, and while she and her managers allegedly agreed they wouldn't earn commission on that deal, they would be entitled to future earnings from any series that came out of it. Remini was soon cast on Family Tools, which premieres in May.

The mid-season replacement doesn’t even debut until next month but in their complaint (read it here) management company The Collective say they want what is due to them from the actress – and they are naming very precise figures. “Notwithstanding Plaintiff’s counsel in furthering Remini’s career, which among other things, led to her landing a role in the ABC television series Family Tools, Remini refuses to pay Plaintiff for its services in direct breach of the talent management agreement entered into between Plaintiff and Remini. Remini’s behavior will not be tolerated,” says the complaint filed Tuesday in La Superior Court. After being represented by The Collective for just under a year, Remini fired them as her managers on October 26 of this year. While they might not have been happy about that,...

Exclusive: There has been a change at the helm of the upcoming ABC comedy series The Family Tools. Bobby Bowman, who developed the adaptation of the British comedy White Van Man and wrote the pilot, has stepped down as executive producer/showrunner of the series. Veterans Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimiglia (That ’70s Show) have come in as executive producers and new showrunners. I hear the change stems from ABC and ABC Studios’ desire to have someone with showrunner experience steering the series. This is Bowman’s first series as a creator and/or showrunner. He previously worked as a key writer-producer on Greg Garcia’s three comedy series: Yes, Dear, My Name Is Earl and Raising Hope. I hear the network and the studio valued Bowman’s voice on the show and offered him to stay on staff but he chose to step aside and give the new showrunners a clean slate.
