Flipping Hilarious

The thoughts and feelings of comedian John Mulaney: a pleasant, nearly-30-year-old man, who enjoys making fun of himself and others.

I love the great opening with the throwback to 1980s television. I love how he claims the phrase "on the phone with Blockbuster" is now an outdated and antiquated expression. I love the differences pointed out between the word "midgets" and the N-word...

The inclusion of Amy Schumer was a bit odd, considering she has no lines whatsoever. A wise use or a waste of good talent? Anyway, an excellent stand-up performance from a bright, relatively young comedian. I hope he does more specials and tours. I would buy a ticket.

John at his best.

Comedian and Saturday Night Live alum John Mulaney's first Netflix Special is a rock solid ride for any stand up comedy fan. John's hilarious takes include stories about his physique, his childhood and family, his girlfriend, his favorite TV shows, Ice-T in Law and Order SVU, and an encounter with a homeless person he met in New York City. His style is very much an preppy young man who speaks fast and fits in as many jokes as possible per minute. He doesn't really tell jokes, he tells stories with his own hilarious takes on them. The pace is fast and and nonstop. This special is arguably John at his best.

Worthwhile

Excellent standup special. A traditional set that features many surprising one-liners and nuggets of wisdom while subtly integrating personal stories that span his entire life. In his first Netflix special, Mulaney really throws down the gauntlet and delivers a hilarious, inspired hour of comedy.

This was the funniest.

I just discovered John Mulaney and have been watching his specials on Netflix. Each one was very funny but this one.. man... this was one of those laugh out loud, crying a little bit, routines. Especially the end. He saves the best for last. I have watched other Netflix specials and I nearly crack a smile at ouse of the stand ups.. but this guy is hysterical.

Slow to Start

John Mulaney, a staff writer for Saturday Night Live, takes the stage in this Comedy Central standup show. He starts out pretty slow, talking about how people thought he was Asian as a child, and the audience is appreciative, but either they've been warmed up or there's some canned laughter in there. By the halfway mark, though, his pace of jokes has picked up. He's on a roll and he's pretty funny -- the laughter in the background still sounds canned, or at least as if the volume is turned up when he pauses for breath.

Even when he tells stories about himself, about his period as a drunk, Mulaney does not vary his pacing much. Early in the show, a bit slower, later in the show, a bit faster. Although the stories are good and well told, they lack a sense of person that I prefer in a comic until the last one. I don't know if you will have the patience to wait for it.

Incredible predictable

If you thought Seinfeld's inane observations are the height of comedy, if you laugh at the fact that fart in Swedish means speed.

This might be for you.

I could bear about 10 minutes in total. Not only does John have a voice that only a manager at the DMV could love, but he also says nothing original or interesting.

The show I have seen so far is about how awkward he is and how society treats him

Oh, I'm too afraid, I sound too girlish, I look like a child, etc.

This seems to be for the person who wants to turn off their brain and laugh with others who have logged out.

Nothing wrong with that, but really not for anyone who enjoys clever, witty sentences, rounded up in some truth or societal issue.

While I put it at 4, that is my ranking. This is not for someone like me, but I am 100% ok if you like it.
