God's Got His Head in the Clouds

For nearly the full length of the movie (14 minutes) we are witnesses to a conversation between a priest and a precocious 11 year old girl (who may be something or somebody else). Both the deadpan delivery of the girl and the perplexed, awkward gestures and questions of the priest make this conversation very funny, although it may have a dark meaning. This meaning is accentuated by high contrast expressionistic shots of the chapel with a background of scudding clouds at the beginning, the extinguishing and lighting of candles and a thurible crashing to the floor. But the final impression is that of a joke, as confirmed by the priest using a weird lighter and an intriguing "inspired by true events" credit.

Oustanding work in black-and-white by Lithuanian cinematographer Ramunas Greicius, whose interior shots bring to mind Italian movies of the sixties. Excellent music by Angelo Badalamenti of David Lynch fame. I enjoyed a lot these 14 minutes.
