Julia, a vain, narcissistic woman suffers from immense dissatisfaction with her sex life. When a dumpy, clumsy tuba player moves into the apartment below her, she writes him off as a nobody. When she hears him practicing his tuba through her walls, however, she experiences the sexual gratification and pleasure that no man had been able to give her. She becomes insatiably curious about her new neighbor, but when she learns that he too has unusual sexual preferences, she must reevaluate her own notions of beauty and desirability.
