Tokyo– The world premiere of Ridley Scott’s Japan in a Day, the crowd-sourced film charting the recovery from the March 11, 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear accident, will be the Special Opening Film at this year’s Tokyo International Film Festival (Tiff) on October 20. Japan in a Day is a collaboration between Scott Free Productions and Japan’s Fuji TV, and features footage sent in by the public that was recorded on March 11 this year, in a similar format to Scott’s Life in a Day and Britain in a Day projects. Here's a round-up of some interesting and/or noteworthy projects that were recently added to IMDbPro's database of development titles:
Untitled Muppets Sequel – The Muppets aren't about to be put back on the shelf again anytime soon. Disney has hired The Muppets director James Bobin and scribe Nicholas Stoller to begin work on their next adventure. Jason Segel, who championed Kermit and co.'s recent comeback is not attached to the project (yet) and there's no word if former Conchord Bret McKenzie, who snagged an Oscar for the film last month, will return to lend his talents.
Japan in a Day – Ridley Scott is using the same formula that launched his YouTube documentary Life in a Day to help relief efforts in Japan with this new project featuring first-person accounts from survivors of the devastating tsunami that struck the country a year ago.
One Hit Wonders – Glee's Ryan Murphy has assembled an all-star cast for this musical set up at Sony about a trio of fallen '90s pop idols who try to re-ignite their careers by forming a super group. Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, Beyonce and Andy Samberg are all on board star. Murphy is writing the script with an eye to direct.
Le petit joueur – Hot off his Oscar victory for Best Actor, The Artist's Jean Dujardin is reportedly set to join this ensemble French comedy for director Manu Joucla. Filming is expected to begin this summer.
Untitled Kristen Wiig Action/Comedy Project – Newly-minted Oscar winners Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (The Descendents) will team up with their fellow Oscar nom (and Groundlings alum) Kristen Wiig for this action comedy. No plot details were provided. Indian Paintbrush produces with Keven J. Walsh.

Scott Making 'In A Day' Japan Earthquake Documentary
Moviemaker Sir Ridley Scott is revisiting his unique 'in a day' filming technique for a documentary about the first anniversary of Japan's devastating earthquake and tsunami.
Scott is handing out 200 cameras and asking amateur filmmakers to record footage for Japan In A Day, about citizens' lives one year after the 11 March disaster.
The best clips uploaded to YouTube.com will be used in the final project, which the Gladiator director is dedicating to the nearly 20,000 people killed in the tragedy.
Fuji Television bosses, who are sponsoring the time capsule movie, will donate profits to victims in Japan.
Scott previously produced the YouTube user-generated movie Life In A Day with director Kevin Macdonald, which featured amateur footage of life around the world on 24 July, 2010.
