The idea of the film arose during the filming of Beremennyy (2011), when Sarik Andreasyan, who directed both films, thought Mikhail Galustyan's facial comic talent deserved a stand-alone film. It was decided it would be a tale.

Before Oleg Tabakov agreed to take on a role in the film, it took him a long time to study the script. Star Mikhail Galustyan, director Sarik Andreasyan, and one of the producers even came together to the theater where Tabakov played and tried to persuade him to participate in the film. After the premiere, Tabakov said he was right when he agreed.

The filmmakers had to hire a trainer to assist Fedya Smirnov during filming.

Mikhail Galustyan is not credited for working on the script although he came up with many jokes Metrik makes in the film.

Malysh's nanny was initially supposed to be male and be played by Dmitriy Dyuzhev.
