The filmmakers considered shooting this movie at asylums located in such Connecticut towns as Norwich, Newtown, Middletown, Meriden, and Waterbury, but were told by the administrators of the asylums that they couldn't shoot their picture in these places. Fortunately, the filmmakers were finally able to secure the Hunt Center in Stamford, Connecticut as the primary location for the exteriors and interiors of the Oakhurst Sanitarium.
The scene with Jessica DiGirolamo as Heather on the side of the road was shot on two different days.
