It’s time to revamp those playlists, people!

Whatever your music genre of choice, there are plenty of new options this fall from LPs to tours. While several stars including Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton and more have confirmed release dates (See: That New-New, below), that’s not stopping us from putting out some positive vibes for a few albums we are hoping to see sooner rather than later (Wishful Thinking).

Musical.ly, like many other online video platforms, is launching a feature that brings more collaboration to its content. The app, known for letting its users set their videos to popular songs, has announced a new “Duets” feature. To draw attention to it, Musical.ly has teamed up with Bruno Mars for a contest set to his song “That’s What I Like.”

With Duets, Musical.ly users can splice multiple videos together in a split-screen format, which allows for coordinated musical performances. It’s basically a first-party, Musical.ly version of the YouTube Doubler, albeit with a much simpler layout. A few examples of videos made with the new feature can be found on YouTube.

With its new contest, Musical.ly hopes to promote Duets by offering up a shout-out from Mars as the top prize. Contestants are invited to record a Duet that complements a clip from the...

It’s been a long time between drinks for Blake Shelton — at least if we’re talking about the last time The Voice‘s winning-est coach saw one of his artists take home first prize. Indeed, you’d have to go back to Craig Wayne Boyd’s victory in Season 7 — almost two years ago — for that particular milestone.

Just weeks away from Christmas, Beyonce debuted a holiday-themed line of merchandise on her website that goes along with her beloved Lemonade album that was released earlier this year. It’s been a strange season of The Voice — and not just because of Gwen Stefani’s penchant for pairing torturous heels with tights.

Barbra Streisand is one of the most revered entertainers of the modern era, so it perhaps makes sense that she completely took over “The Tonight Show” on Monday during her first guest appearance in late night in more than 50 years, even if it wasn't her idea. George Michael was one of the biggest stars of the 80′s and early 90′s, starting with Wham! and then solo. Since his debut, he’s sold over 100 million records worldwide and notched eight #1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100.

As if the world of singing competitions hasn't been saturated enough, ABC is taking another crack at finding their own future singing stars with Rising Star, which premieres June 22. 

In the 2012 summer television season, ABC introduced Duets, which lasted one season. It pitted famous singers -- Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Robin Thicke and Jennifer Nettles -- with amateur singers, and each week they performed a duet. The winner apparently won a recording contract but has since disappeared into obscurity.

Michael Jackson‘s posthumous album Xscape will be out May 13th, and the much-anticipated single “Love Never Felt So Good” has just been released … as a duet with Justin Timberlake. Take a listen.

The song (written in 1983) is a serviceable enough dance jam (it would have fit in nicely on Off The Wall, or as the B side to Stevie Wonder‘s “Do I Do”), but the inclusion of Justin was totally unnecessary and distracting.

The bizarre genre of Duets With The Dead has been around for a while, but is rarely anything but morbid … and rarely anything but a cash grab. The most notable exception was Natalie Cole‘s loving tribute to her father on “Unforgettable,” but even that was the subject of one of Saturday Night Live‘s greatest moments.

Furthermore, his music encompassed an impressively broad range of styles, and the only Grammy he won was in the New Age category -- for a recording of a symphony. Think about those things amid the flood of Lateef obituaries with "jazz" in the headline.

That said, certainly Lateef's own musical origins indisputably revolved around jazz. Growing up in Detroit, a highly fertile musical environment in the 1930s and beyond, Lateef got his first instrument, an $80 Martin alto sax, at age 18. Within a year he was on the road with the 13 Spirits of Swing (arrangements by Milt Buckner).

Jennifer Nettles surely is more comfortable hosting "Cma Country Christmas" this time.

When she filled that role on the ABC special last year, the Sugarland vocalist was about to deliver her first baby. In the same month her son marks his first birthday, Nettles is back for her fourth round introducing a parade of country artists performing seasonal favorites in the two-hour show Monday, Dec. 2.

(ABC repeats it both Saturday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 22.)

We know lumberjack competitions are all the rage in the south, but we had no idea they included an evening wear portion! Unfortunately, we don't think Kelly Clarkson is going to win it with this entry. I’m not a TV producer — I just criticize them on the Internet. But putting my patented brand of bitchery aside for a second, I’ll admit it’s got to be tough to strike the right balance of good singing, emotional backstory and judges’ chatter during the audition rounds of a reality competition series.

That said, Episode 4 of The Voice‘s fifth season was one of those recipes that goes sideways from the first step: Maybe somebody didn’t leave the cake out in the rain, but the finished product sure was tear-streaked and a little bit soggy.

Well, the part of me that watches too much reality TV (aka my heart, soul, brain and spleen) likes to think the producers of NBC’s The Voice paid secret homage to their fallen rival during the Season 4 Top 8 results telecast.

Reality TV fans are acutely aware that American Idol — coming off a Season 12 finale that, year-to-year, was down 33 percent in total viewers and 44 percent in the 18-49 demo — is bracing for the kind of treatment that Tyra Banks gives to pretty young pageant girls on Top Model: A dramatic makeover!

And a report today from Vulture – that producers are considering a judges’ panel made up entirely of former contestants — certainly sounds like Idol is in for more than a basic cut-and-color during the dormant period before filming on Season 13 gets underway sometime in late August or early September.

American Idol and The Voice will return next season but Duets will not. It's been cancelled by ABC and won't be back for a second season.

With Robin Thicke, Jennifer Nettles, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend as judges, Duets ran last summer to poor ratings. The season averaged a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.93 million total viewers.

ABC didn't include the series on their upcoming summer or fall schedules and have removed Duets from their website. What's more, host Quddus told fans that there wouldn't be a second season all the way back in September.

On his Facebook page, he wrote "A lot of folks are asking about whether Duets is continuing into a 2nd season: the answer is unfortunately it's not."

You don't expect to find a classical singer as part of a "Cma Country Christmas."

That's exactly what Katherine Jenkins enjoys about joining many country music stars on the annual ABC special airing Thursday, Dec. 20 (and repeating twice the following weekend).

The mezzo-soprano and Season 14 "Dancing With the Stars" runner-up has a new holiday album to promote -- "This Is Christmas" -- and during the two-hour show's taping last month, she liked being able to do so among such Nashville staples as Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles (back as host for the third year), Keith Urban, Martina McBride, Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley, Little Big Town and The Band Perry.

Congratulations are in order for Jennifer Nettles. The Sugarland singer, 38,  gave birth to her son, Magnus Hamilton, on Thursday, December 6.

"We are so thankful for all the prayers and support and are excited to take some time together as a new family," Nettles and her husband Justin Miller said in a statement to People.

This is the first child for the couple, who quietly married last year in a small, sunset ceremony in Tennessee last November 28.

Nettles recently wrapped up a Sugarland tour this summer, and came out victorious on reality singing competition Duets' first season, which she won with partner J Rome.

NBC’s popular reality singing competition The Voice airs tonight, the second evening of the week the show runs on the Peacock network.

While The Voice maintains a steady viewership, it does have its fair share of competition. The tube is filled with scores of singing competition shows, such as ABC’s Duets, Fox’s The X Factor and American Idol, Cmt’s The Singing Bee, NBC’s America’s Got Talent and Oxygen’s The Glee Project. Phew.

The amount of series with these similar premises is overwhelming. The success of American Idol, which premiered in 2002, is responsible for spawning these copycats, but nothing lasts forever — right?

Exclusive: Fox has bought an untitled John Legend comedy project from 20th Century Fox TV, studio-based Chernin Entertainment and Legend’s production company Get Lifted. Written by Sons Of Tucson‘s co-creators Tommy Dewey & Greg Bratman, the single-camera comedy is based loosely on Legend’s upbringing. It is about a guy in his early 20s who becomes the guardian to his own siblings while having to manage his burgeoning career and social life. Get Lifted principals Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorious will executive produce with Katherine Pope and Peter Chernin. Dewey and Bratman will co-executive produce. The project is outside the pod deal Get Lifted recently signed with Universal Cable Prods. Singer-songwriter Legend, a nine-time Grammy winner, has been focused on television for the past several months. In addition to the development pact at Ucp, he hosted and executive produced a music special for Showtime and starred on the ABC summer reality series Duets.

American Idol and Duets may be waiting in the wings while The Voice and The X Factor duke it out, but when time came for iHeartRadio to poll their listeners, all four shows -- and their judges -- were in the mix!

Coming in first was The Voice judge Blake Shelton, with 20.7 percent of the vote! Trailing him with 15.8 percent of the vote is Blake's Voice buddy, Adam Levine. Upcoming American Idol judge Mariah Carey is the first lady to rank, with 10.4 percent of the vote, while The Voice rounds out the Top 5 with Cee Lo and Christina Aguilera (10.2 and 9.6 percent, respectively).

After performing in Chicago on Saturday night, Kelly Clarkson and boyfriend Brandon Blackstock swung by Nellcôte for a private after-party with fellow tour mates The Fray. John Legend could use a lift healthwise. On his way back over the weekend to New York City after a trip to South Africa, the R&B songster apparently picked up a bug and felt ill enough that he paid a visit to his local emergency room. The good news is he's going to be Ok. A rep for the 33-year-old Legend tells E! News he was treated in the ER Saturday morning for the flu but he is now resting at home and doing "fine."
