Official submission of Japan to the Oscars 2014 best foreign language film category.
Majime is given "office sleeves" from his superior who is retiring. These sleeves are an item of clothing that some office workers wear in Japan. The purpose is to keep their shirt sleeves from getting dirty with the ink on papers that they handle.
Majime first encounters Kaguya on a September night when the moon is full. One can see a traditional decoration of Japanese mochi and a type of grass indicating that it is September. Also Kaguya might inspire viewers to think of the Japanese fairy story with the title Princess Kaguya who had a strong connection to the moon.
The location of the house where Majime lives is in the Hongo district of Tokyo, near to Tokyo university.
