It's so devastating that the Kyoto Animation studios was attacked by a disgusting human being yesterday. I can't get over this tragedy like 35 talented Kyoani employees lost their lives because of him.
I decided to watch Hyouka today because it was the first made-for-tv anime adaption the studio ever did and boy they did a great job on it. Now I have to say the storyline wasn't exactly the best but the whole anime was well done. The animation and voice actors really hit the spot of me wanting to watch more of the anime. When the teens go around the cherry blossom areas, man you'd honestly wish you were in Japan!
It's so hard for me to type a review like this, my thoughts and huge condolences go out to the victims families as well as their colleagues. It's a very sad time to lose a large group of people who have worked their butts off in supplying the best animation out there. May they rest in peace <3

Let me say don't stop watching it by experiencing first or second episodes. You should comment it after completing whole episodes. I wasn't confident enough to watch this show at the very beginning. But it turns out to be an exceptional anime with slow paced scenes. Most of us might be expecting a lot from it, but the case is, only the patient ones will only enjoy Hyouka to the full extent. If you are Sherlock Holmes fan I highly recommend it.I HOPE FOR THE NEXT SEASON...

I really like the work of Kyoto Animation. Unique and fantastic art style, perfect music and even more perfect stories. Hyouka almost has all of them. Or to be more precise, it had the potential to have all them.
The plot is nothing complex: Oreki Houtarou, our first main character is an energy-conservative guy, who has to join the 'Classics Club'. He meets our other main character, Chitanda Eru, who is tireless and very, very, very curious. Thanks to this ever-curious girl, Oreki is dragged into many mysteries and investigations, which is, of course, the complete opposite of the boy's lifestyle.
I have the obvious reasons why I like this anime. It's written at the first paragraph: it has the characteristics of Kyoto Animation's works. However, the thing I would consider the best in this anime is, the implementation of the story. Making a show about investigating mysteries can be pretty hard, especially because it can easily be boring and/or unnecessarily complex, especially at the slice of life genre. Luckily, Hyouka manages to remain interesting and entertaining, with the help of its well-written characters. The situations are somehow remarkable and down to earth at the same time. Hyouka is a school example of how to make a slice of life anime, which maintains the interest from the start till the end.
So what's the problem with it? The answer is simple: the length. Hyouka is an adaptation of a light novel series, so it still has stories to...adapt basically. However, there is a great chance that will never happen (unfortunatelly) for obvious reasons. Still, me and everyone who loved the show will wait patiently, if it ever gonna happen.

I've just watched this series in this New Year Day through an introduction of my sister, and I jumped right here after finishing it. The story is really great, maybe because I am an introverted person and I really find myself through the main character, Houtarou (not the investigate part, for sure :D). The way it got the viewers into the mysteries along with the series is just so exciting, though they are all just some a bit more-than-ordinary-stories that happened in a high- school student's everyday life, and all of their beautiful, innocent emotions. Also the work of art is just so good comparing to all manga anime I've watched. If you want to find sometime to relax and get some good-old-memories from your student time back, or even you are not, this is sure a good series to watch. Enjoy :)

One of the best slices of life animes i have ever seen. The blue air hyouka with its sad yellow tone make its different from other slices of life animes. The protagonist :Oreki Houtarou with his motto of having peaceful school days become opposite to Eru Chitanda:The fool....Every scenes are so warm and lovely from the genres... Simply love this show<3

Although the mysteries of the anime are intriguing and I had a lot of fun following them and trying to solve them, over time, you realize that the anime suffers from the lack of a story line. The solving of the mysteries does not take the characters anywhere and does not evolve the plot, thus causing a certain lack of interest in continuing to watch.
If it wasn't for the beautiful art, the good opening and ending songs and the good character development, hyouka would be just another anime about the daily student life of its characters that I would pass by and wouldn't have finished watching, because, let's be honest, there are many similar anime of this type.

Hyouka is a story about a high school boy who would rather not exert energy on everyday school life. However, after being urged to join the Classic Literature Club, but gets swept up in a girl's desire to investigate the simple parts of life.
Hyouka revolutionizes the slice-of-life genre by diving deep into it's characters and pins down what makes them tick. No detail is left behind and every primary character is a changed person by the end of the series. The protagonist, Oreki, is a masterfully-crafted character and captures the sense of a apathetic high schooler perfectly. He also contrasts well with the other 3 main cast members who are very lively compared to him.
As expected of Kyoto Animation, the animation is unparalleled. The musical score flawlessly mixes classical pieces with the up-beat ones.
All in all, Hyouka is not only a well-oiled machine, but a innovative one at that. It's rare to see an anime have a plot so well-written while being consistent, two things which Hyouka does in stride. There is no doubt that anybody who watches this will become instantly attached to the Classic-Literature Club and their endeavors involving the everyday high school life.

This probably won't be the most loved review but I'm entitled to my opinion. I jumped into this anime because it was listed as a romance and it is most certainly not. Really bad story with very forgettable boring characters. The musical score and animation are amazing though.
Basically the main character is lazy and wants to - is forced to join a failing literature club. After that he starts "solving" boring mysteries that nobody cares about. I seriously don't understand why people enjoy this so much? I feel like I'm missing something.
To the staff that has made wonderful anime such as Clannad, Violet Evergarden, A Silent Voice. Rest in peace. What happened is egregious and disgusting. It makes me deeply sad such talented people were murdered.

Some of the best writing I have ever seen on TV to be frank, the pacing is just right and don't get me started on the soundtrack and animation quality.
This is more than just the bright and flashy bravado we have grown to love from anime, oh no this is a true masterpiece.
This is one of the few Well animated and well written anime I've watched So far .... If you are looking for A Slice of life Genre then look no more , The only Bad thing I'd say is there is no Season 2 yet(maybe).

This anime might be one of the best mystery anime I've seen. This is really something wish there were season 2. But there aren't enough material so no chance. It make you want to see more by each episode. This is a must watch anime.
Story is awesome MC is cool and it takes a pretty good start but somewhere in the middle of the series it getsb little boring but keep watching and at the end you will love it.

The design of the character is very interesting. The core of the work is to show the ignorant love between adolescent boys and girls and the process of inner change. The subtle emotions between the characters are still displayed in detail. The energy-efficient wood selection and the curiosity of Chianti Tian are gradually approaching and the character is slowly changing. The overall rhythm control is quite good. It also contains some thoughts about the times and society. The implicit expression adds a bit of literary and artistic flavor. The humorous elements added in the appropriate position make people laugh. The performance of painting can be described as the peak. The figuration of the reasoning part shows that the design is very careful, which makes the boring reasoning look interesting. The advertisement under the cherry blossom in the last episode is very beautiful. There are bright spots in the plot. I personally feel that the best thing is the content of Valentine's Day and the history of the classical part. But generally speaking, it mainly revolves around reasoning. There are some places where the design is not particularly reasonable, which makes people feel a bit forced to advance the plot. It is not natural enough. As a work with the development of character relations as the core, the proportion of each part of the plot should be balanced is somewhat unbalanced. But again, the performance is really invincible.

Hyouka's subtle charm and everyday mysteries drew me in. The slice-of-life narrative and natural romance added depth.
Houtarou's brilliant, yet emotional, personality makes him relatable. Chitanda's curiosity and their blossoming relationship are beautifully explored.
The show's thoughtful exploration of human connections and Houtarou's detective skills are standout features. The animation and soundtrack complement the narrative perfectly.
While pacing can be slow, Hyouka's message resonates: connections take time, and genuine relationships cultivate through shared experiences. A refreshing, character-driven anime with a dash of mystery. Highly recommended for those seeking a thoughtful, feel-good watch.
