“Deadpool & Wolverine” and “ Dune: Part Two” led all films in nominations for the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Awards, the Mpse announced on Monday morning. The two large-scale productions each received three nominations in the seven Golden Reel feature-film categories, with both films nominated for its feature dialogue/Adr, feature effects/Foley and music editing.

Films with two nominations included “Alien: Romulus,” “A Complete Unknown,” “Emilia Perez,” “Wicked” and the two documentaries “Elton John: Never Too Late” and “Music by John Williams.”

In the Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Feature Effects/Foley category, the Golden Reel category that most closely corresponds to the Academy Award for Best Sound, the nominees were “Alien: Romulus,” “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Dune: Part Two,” “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” “Nosferatu” and “September 5.”

One part The Office, one part Dracula, and several parts the 2014 What We Do In The Shadows movie from Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, this charming FX sitcom has been chugging along for the past six years, reliably producing season after season of quality comedy with a horror twist. Looking to jam with some legends? The Spring 2024 edition of Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp has been announced, with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, The Offspring guitarist Noodles, and 311 frontman Nick Hexum leading the lineup.

The four-day camp runs April 18th to 21st in Los Angeles. Aspiring singers and instrumentalists will be placed into bands with other campers and receive mentoring from one of Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp’s rockstar counselors, including Derek St. Holmes (Ted Nugent), Bruce Kulick (Kiss), Todd Morse (The Offspring), Vinny Appice, Gary Hoey, Tommy Black (Scott Weiland), and camp musical director Britt Lightning (Vixen), among others.

The camp will culminate with a pair of gigs at Whisky a Go Go and The Viper Room, where campers will get to perform alongside Smith, Noodles, and Hexum.

“I am looking forward to jamming with the campers this April,” said Smith in a press release.

Next year marks the 30th anniversary of The Offspring’s mainstream breakout album, Smash. To celebrate, the punk rock veterans are headed back to Orange County for a special concert being held in Anaheim on June 1st, 2024.

During their performance at Honda Center, The Offspring will play Smash in its entirety along with their biggest hits. “We’ve got some celebrating to do in Orange County,” the band said in a press statement. “Look out Honda Center…we’re coming for you!”

During his time there, he will try to maintain his moral code, navigate a ruthless curriculum, deal with vicious social cliques and own personal insecurities.

Waxwork Records, the label responsible for releasing beautifully packaged scores for Rosemary’s Baby, Creepshow, Day of the Dead, Re-Animator, etc. are announcing two new releases today:

The first of two being the fully remastered release of Chuck Cirino‘s original score to the B-Movie horror classic, Chopping Mall, directed by Jim Wynorski and starring scream queens Barbara Crampton and Kelli Maroney.

This release marks the first time vinyl release of Chopping Mall, featuring liner notes from composer Chuck Cirino and the film’s writer, Steve Mitchell.

Murderous security robots killed them at the mall, while a vengeful mother unleashed her rage upon them at summer camp. Two supposedly safe havens for teenagers in the 1980′s were bathed in blood in 1986′s Chopping Mall and 1980′s Friday the 13th. After recently unveiling their artwork for their Friday the 13th vinyl, Waxwork Records has announced the release dates and full details of both movie scores, so you can mark your calendars in blood red.

Child birth is one of life’s beautiful miracles (depending on who you ask), as the female body houses, nurtures, and creates a human life all through mystical biological magic – with some help from a male counterpart. Hey, someone has to plant the seed, ladies! Essentially, it’s like men are gardeners whose only job is to come in and drop a few seeds into the soil, working for one night (sure ladies, go ahead and insert a joke here about how long your man lasts), but then a female gardener replaces the male and tends to the field for the next nine months. The remake debate rages on in the world of film to this very day. Although at this point it’s not much of a debate, the majority of film lovers have had enough of remakes. While that is a respectable position, it’s not an argument that holds up to any intense scrutiny. The landscape of film has always been built upon unoriginal projects. Whether it’s a remake, an adaptation, a sequel, or a prequel has no actual bearing on the quality of the film. What matters is what the people behind the film put into its production. Come Out and Play is a remake, as well as an adaptation of a novel,¿Quién puede matar a un niño?. Such practicalities aside, what matters most is whether the movie’s any good. Specifically: does Come Out and Play...

Come Out and Play moves pretty quickly and its entirely unforgiving in key sequences. I loved the finale of the film which some might find inappropriate or offensive. I found it rather gratifying its the way a picture of this nature should end and the only reasonable conclusion to reach. There are enough shining moments in this picture to keep viewers attuned to the screen and even at over 100 minutes runtime its over before you know it.

Word out of the land of Dracula is that Calvin Lee Reeder's The Rambler has won the Jury Award at the 2nd annual Full Moon Horror and Fantasy Film Festival. New Indie of the Month There are any number of reasons for horror buffs to check out Come Out and Play (Flatiron Film Company). For one thing, it’s a remake of the creepy Spanish cult flick Who Can Kill a Child, a pre–Children of the Corn B movie about tourists on an island inhabited entirely by homicidal kids. What also makes Come Out and Play so compelling is its mysterious provenance; it’s directed by someone who goes by the name Makinov, and this filmmaker wears a mask not just in personal appearances and interviews but even on the set as well. I grew up in the 1980s, when serial killers stalking summer camps defined the horror genre: Friday the 13th, Sleepaway Camp, Cheerleader Camp, The Burning. So to me, the Great Horror Campout was a long time coming.

Billed as an “immersive experience,” the Great Horror Campout is a 12-hour, overnight “camping trip” that puts you in the middle of the horrors that lurk in the woods. I do not like camping and I do not like wilderness, so I doubt that I could make it through the actual event. When I was offered a preview of the experience in a climate-controlled warehouse, I jumped at the chance.

Myself and a half-dozen journalists were asked to meet in Griffith Park in the heart of Los Angeles - already a scary proposition. Griffith Park is a massive state park built into the mountain, so there are lots of winding, multi-layered roads, none of which have names.

Mononymous writer-director Makinov’s 2012 thriller “Come Out and Play” only works if you could never in your wildest dreams consider killing a kid if your life was in serious danger. Call me cold and callous, but I’d chuck a child into the nearest river if the nasty little brat was attempting to murder me. Although I’m sure the act would likely cause serious emotional damage, but when it comes to survival, even a five-year-old boy isn’t above getting crushed when push comes to shove. If you found any part of this opening passage to be offensive, then chances are “Come Out and Play” is going to give you nightmares for decades. Makinov’s movie is a retelling of director Narciso Ibanez Serrador’s 1976 shocker “Who Can Kill a Child?” Unfortunately, the filmmaker doesn’t do anything remarkably different with the material. It’s just the same old thing with brand new faces.

The Belarusian director of Come Out and Play (2012) - released on DVD on 6 May - is something of an eccentric figure. After a near-death experience whilst shooting a documentary on Huichol shamanism in Mexico, he forged himself a new identity - Makinov - adorning a red hood from that day forth in all interviews and public appearances. Making a film of any real-life disaster is a thankless task filled with pitfalls. Indeed, the title here could just as easily apply to the actual task of production. The decision to tell this story from the point of view of a holidaying western family trying to survive the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami drew criticism that it ignored the thousands of local lives that were destroyed. But their story is as valid as anyone's; this isn't, as was suggested many times, mere "grief tourism". Besides, without the star power of Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor it's unlikely it would have been made at all, certainly not with a budget that allows such terrifying spectacle – the tsunami itself, and the devastation it wreaks – in the form of some incredibly realistic effects work.
