On the surface, Girish Ad’s I Am Kathalan (2024) is every jilted incel Stem bro’s wet dream. A computer engineer taking revenge on his ex-girlfriend by hacking into her father’s company’s server? Dream so good that it could be the premise of a biopic of Elon Musk. Not that the world needs one. Girish Ad, to his credit, does not allow “I Am Kathalan” to be too ‘enamored’ by such dreams. The film, under the guise of a techno-thriller, is more about human frailties, with the fallacies of the youth and the ignorance of the old taking centerstage. Having said that, it must be noted that the ‘technological’ aspect of the film is deftly done with specific attention to details when it comes to ‘hacking.’ It does not involve the tried-and-tested method of showing a black screen with the word ‘downloading’ written on it with a progression bar.

After the success of Thallumaala, director Khalid Rahman is gearing up for his next project, which will feature Naslen and Lukman in the lead roles. The film, which is yet to be titled, is produced by Vishnu Venu, who has backed films like Kappela and Elaveezha Poonchira.

According to sources, the film will be an action-packed entertainer on the lines of Thallumaala, which was a blockbuster hit in 2022. The film starred Tovino Thomas, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Shine Tom Chacko in the lead roles and was praised for its thrilling plot, engaging narration and stunning action sequences.

Lukman, who were part of Thallumaala, have been roped in to play the main protagonists in the film. Bhavana Studios, the production house founded by actor Fahadh Faasil, director Dileesh Pothan and writer Syam Pushkaran, has conducted the pooja of its fifth film today. The film, which is yet to be titled, will be directed by Gireesh Ad, who made his mark with the hit films Thaneer Mathan Dhinangal and Super Sharanya. The film will star Mamitha Baiju and Naslen in the lead roles, along with a supporting cast of seasoned actors.

The film was announced on July 4, 2023 by Dileesh Pothan on his social media account. He wrote, “Girish Ad, known for helming Thanneer Mathan Dinangal and Super Sharanya, will be directing the fifth film to be produced by me, Shyam and Fahadh under the banner of Bhavana Studios.
