    The global best

The Italian culinary competition is on a total different level vs USA, UK and Australia. Higher standard, higher expectations and of course 20 time better cuisine. The only "negative" feedback is that the show is (of course) Italian centric, with no space for an international kick.

    Great, but could be better

    Points for improvement:
    • Less meat. Come on man, it's 2024. Make it accessible to vegetarian and vegan contestants, if they can cook Michelin star versions of the meat dishes, why not let them? Contestants should have the option of making a vegetarian version of any given meat dish, it can be a fun 'disadvantage' or advantage depending how good they are with veg!

    • Less obviously putting participants one against the other (less fuelling gossip and hatred). Sometimes it really puts me off the show to see how mean people are to each other and how this goes not only unpunished but fuelled by the judges and the showwriters.

    • Less 'luck' component, make it less like a game and more like the COOKING competition it's meant to be. Too often, very promising contestants leave the show for things that seem really stupid and something they would have learnt on day 1 in a professional kitchen (e.g. Making omelettes a very specific way, or removing bones/sand from fish, or they get massively disadvantaged for not spotting a specific herb or cut of meat). This should be about whether someone can cook a tasty dish and present it decently, not about knowing niche things about cooking which they would learn on the job. They should take more inspiration from the original (Masterchef UK) where everyone is nice to each other and they focus on cooking.

    Food is the main actor

Compared to the other Masterchefs in the world I notice that the cooking level, the quality of the judges and the talents shown are very much higher.

Still entertaining, but mostly focused on quality of the food processed and the upstanding level of the judges, somehow less on the entertainment.

    It's a very nice show.

It has improved a lot during the years, last seasons are the best.

    • Trivia
In the eleventh episode of the second edition, Tiziana broke the rules, adding the oil to her plate after a long time, when the judges had already ordered to raise their hands in the air. Despite the blatant infringement, the judges (divided on the matter, with Barbieri who warned her and Bastianich who wanted to expel her) decided to admit her to the next round. The incident has had wide public resonance, so much so that on the social network Twitter the hashtag #oilgate has become a trending topic. In the external test of the twelfth episode of the second edition Ivan decided for the first time to compose a team of men only against all women.
