    Slick, fun neo-Noir short film by stellar actor, writer, producer Jon Spano. If you like old-school Noir, this short-film parody is for you! Finely-tuned direction by Blaze Mancillas. And, as the femme fatale, an award-winning performance by sultry Amanda Brooke Lerner. The Big Gun reminds us of old-school Hollywood gumshoes, with Spano's Jonnie Kildaire as a blend of Bogie and Cagney. There's a surprise cinematic twist midway through, then another plot reveal you won't see coming at the end. The Big Gun reminds me of another Noir parody from the '70s, The Cheap Detective. Definite must-see for fans of the Noir genre.

    I love old Hollywood films.

    I love old Hollywood films and saw this at a friend's film festival screening in New York City. If the Noir genre interests you, this short film is a parody of those golden oldies (and clunkers). All the Noir tropes are here: the detective trying to solve a murder; the femme fatale in distress; a convoluted plot with surprising turns; shadows; betrayal; romance gone wrong; dashed hopes; murder... The writing is musical and snappy, the direction and cinematography are savvy and on-point, and the acting by the two leads - Jon Spano (also writer and producer) and Amanda Brooke Lerner has lots of chemistry. It doesn't end how you think.

    What a surprise!

    What a surprise to see this entertaining Film Noir short at a recent screening in Manhattan. I did not expect The Big Gun to be so funny. That's due to the writing, directing, and acting. The film's lead detective (Jonnie Kildaire) is played by Jon Spano, who is also the film's writer and producer. That Kildaire is not always in control of things gives the story its juice. His co-star is the commanding Amanda Brooke Lerner, a captivating onscreen presence. There's a few good twists and turns to keep the fast-pace story moving: it's a classic "who killed my partner?" throughline like The Maltese Falcon. Still, you won't be bored and will want to know what happens next.
