I enjoyed this game from some independent game designers who obviously really enjoyed Sonic. It was fast and fun and very enjoyable. I just wish the story was a bit more together as it just seems there are missing plot points, unexplained things and the like within. Still, it was nice to have a story that was much better than Sonic fighting Dr. Robotnic or Eggman with only the slightest story being presented. I just wish they could have made the game without the character select so you can just play the entire game at once.
The story has this alien called Brevon taking over a kingdom as he has apparently crashed on this planet that seems to have a bit of history and it almost seems as if it is a sequel. Well he brainwashes the prince and his plans are in motion as another alien is shot down prompting Lilac the dragon and Carol the cat girl to investigate. It is at this point you choose your character and I went with the dragon girl. I will play it again and choose Carol and see how different the game is from her perspective or what changes there are so while I prefer one adventure with alternating levels, this does add a bit of replayability to the game.
The game is a faster version of Sonic the Hedgehog. You know that most of the levels in Sonic if you blazed forward at full speed in most levels you were going to be in for a bad time. This game seems to want you to be able to blaze ahead and not have to worry about sudden death. It is made by people who enjoyed Sonic as you have sections where you have springs and such, but I feel it is enough of its own thing as to stand out.
So, I thought this game was rather fun as it is nice to play a game that is relatively short these days. I mean, some games take a guy like me a long time to win since I am working so much. To get done with something after only four hours, kind of a breath of fresh air. There is a second game too, so I will probably give it a go as well, from the looks of it, looks like you have an overworld map so I am interested to see if there are more story elements in that one.

If you are a huge fan of the Sonic Franchise. Freedom Planet is the best non-Sonic game that you really need to play! It showed absolute great potential and lived its expectations for the Sonic fans. The music is absolutely exciting. Most of the levels in the game really fit into the song of choice. One of my favorite songs is "Final Boss 2". The gameplay is astonishing. This is already like playing the Sonic game but with the use of the three Freedom Planet characters each with their own fighting style. Lilac uses his dragon power ability, Carol with her agile melee attacks, and Milla with a small cube that can be used to blast, shield, and shield blast the attack. Levels were absolutely difficult and challenging both at the same time depending on which character you are playing even in normal mode. It was very stressful to repeat a level that I can't beat but that is what makes the game very challenging. Especially when I face Lord Brevon three times. For Milla is just two. But one of the real reasons that I really need to play is the Adventure mode. The Adventure mode has the right to either play as Lilac or Carol. While Milla is locked unless I progress throughout the game. Not just those the 3 characters have their own fighting style but they both got each of their different perspectives of their own story, some have different levels, some have different dialogs and some have different boss battles to beat. But mostly it's Milla who has fewer boss battles in the end. I also loved the voices in the game. Each of those voices really fits each of the characters making them very special and memorable. Even bloopers are secretly added.
If you really want to play a non-Sonic game that plays like a Sonic game? Then this is an absolute gem to grab!
