American Primeval

This topic never ceases to interest me. There's something about venturing into the unknown with only your wits to protect you.

Most of these stories about the pioneers in North America are about loss, greed, and a few good people who were just looking for home.

This is another one of those stories, but it is poignant because it captures the essence of life during a very specific time in the past. A time that reminds us of unspoiled natural beauty and how far each and everyone of us would go to lay claim to it.

I wish the visuals were a little more colorful as some scenes almost look black and white and fail to capture the immense landscapes of Utah. Yet, the drab colors seem to express the somber and dark premise of the plot.

Taylor Kitsch as Isaac and Betty Gilpin as Sara Rowell share center stage as they fight their way forward in what can only be considered blind optimism. Then again, finding purpose is as important as finding yourself.
