Elijah Levi, a successful comedian in 1942 Palestine, is deported by the British authorities to Carthago, a detainee camp, in which he is held with Jewish underground warriors and Nazi criminals.
Fabrizio stays behind, while Elijah and Thomas get to the plane and try to escape. Elena connects with her former lover, and Thomas tries to contact his network.
With Fabrizio gone, the camp's supply of the drug "pervitin" is dwindling. Every prisoner group tries to get one of their own appointed as the camp's new "golden boy", while camp wardens McDonald and Mustafa are trying to use the situation to elevate their own standings.
