That's what this Lumiere picture is: some guys grab another and toss him in a blanket for half a minute.

It's one of many actualities of the era, and to the modern movie audience it seems pointless. So many of these movies do. Oh, you may admire the decent composition of the movie, you may take note of the way everyone is dressed iike a Parisian apache, with sashes instead of belts. Yet except for that small amount of what was typical dress once upon a time, there's nothing to make this stand out.
