During “Polite Society,” writer-director Nida Manzoor’s boisterous, shrewdly funny and altogether wonderful coming-of-age action-adventure, you might try to recall the last time you’ve seen a young female on the big screen with as much fire in her belly as Ria. Was it the football-loving and tradition defying Jess in “Bend it Like Beckham,” the precocious rebel Marjane in “Persepolis,” the all-female trash metal stars of the recent documentary “Sirens” or the real-life Syrian sisters Yusra and Sarah Mardini in “Swimmers”?
While the lead Pakistani character of “Polite Society”—a die-hard martial arts enthusiast played by a fierce Priya Kansara—isn’t an existing hero based on a real-life story of courage, her defiant spirit is so lovingly and precisely defined by Manzoor that you unreservedly believe in her when Ria claims: “I am the fury!”

Pre-release jitters can get the best of anyone. Just ask Hugh Grant.
He had some trepidation about “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” his breakout movie, prior to its release. That’s according to his friend Sam Neill, who wrote in his upcoming memoir “Did I Ever Tell You This?” about some comments that Grant made before the film premiered, with a bit of his trademark British self-deprecation
“I had dinner in London with Hugh Grant soon after ‘Sirens,'” Neill wrote. “I asked him what he’d been up to. ‘Oh,’ he said, ‘a piece of complete crap called “Four Weddings and a Funeral.” … Disaster. Absolute and utter rubbish.'”
Neill, who starred alongside Grant in “Sirens” (1994) and “Restoration” (1995), that Grant’s career was in part thanks to the success of “Four Weddings,” directed by Mike Newell from a script by Richard Curtis.

The premiere of “Overboard” Monday night in Westwood Village served as one of the few moments for Latinos to gather and celebrate a rare breed of film: one featuring a Latino male lead.
As the box-office continues to be dominated by films featuring diverse casts and storytellers, Eugenio Derbez occupies a lonely perch in Hollywood as one of the few Latino actors who has starred in a wide-release film. A 2017 USC study found that Latinos represented just 3% of speaking roles in the top 100 films of 2016.
Fans of the Mexican actor lined the red carpet at The Regency Village Theater and were overjoyed when he stopped to take pictures with them.

The red carpet featured stars like Eva Longoria, who also has a role in the film. Jaime Camil (“Jane the Virgin”) and Latin pop singer Prince Royce attended, as did a number of Latino celebrities like Alicia Machado.

“Pleased to Eat You” The first poster for The Meg says it all and you can bet this won’t end well.
Jason Statham (“Spy,” “Furious 7,” “The Expendables” films) and award-winning Chinese actress Li Bingbing (“Transformers: Age of Extinction,” “Forbidden Kingdom,” “The Message”) star in the science fiction action thriller The Meg, directed by Jon Turteltaub (the “National Treasure” movies, “Last Vegas”).

With time running out, expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), to save the crew—and the ocean itself—from this unstoppable threat:...

5.10 Who Are You?
It’s weird for a show to feel like it’s in a huge transition five seasons in, but that’s where we’re at with Arrow. I have been happier with this season than any other, but for some reason it struck me early in tonight’s episode how incredibly gloomy this show is. Even when it’s trying not to be (and it was working hard at that tonight), it’s still grim and pitch black compared to the rest of the CW DC shows. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just a little jarring when you go from watching a gaggle of people...

The actor is best known for starring in Chicago P.D., but he’s also made appearances in the likes of Sirens and Trainwreck. Now, he’s set to have a recurring role in Arrow‘s fifth season.

Superheroes can never have enough help, and Arrow is no exception. Josh Segarra is joining The CW program as Adrian Chase, district attorney of Star City. Deadline is reporting that Segarra has signed on for the fifth season of the crime fighter show as a series regular. In it his character will work alongside Mayor Oliver Queen, and who knows, maybe Chase’s alter ego Vigilante will appear as well? Segarra has previously worked on Chicago P.D. and Sirens. He currently plays Emilio Estefan in the Broadway musical On Your Feet!. Arrow is the second most popular show on The CW, averaging nearly 3.8 million viewers in “live + 7.” It trails only The Flash on that network. Segarra isn’t the only new regular for the 2016 season of Arrow. The network had previously announced that Echo Kellum, who plays Curtis Holt, has been upgraded from recurring to series regular. The premiere date for the upcoming season hasn’t yet been announced.

When Denis Leary stopped by TVLine’s Comic-Con Suite at the Hard Rock Hotel, he thought he was just going to plug his upcoming FX series, Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, and that would be that. Instead, he found himself getting sucked in by the “judgmental and disappointment vibes” that he got from our founder and Eic, Michael Ausiello.

The courtship of You’re the Worst‘s Gretchen and Jimmy was basically the stuff of Nora Ephron’s nightmares — and don’t expect their cohabitation to go any differently, star Aya Cash says.
Because if FX’s anti-rom-com taught us anything, it’s that a narcissistic novelist and an impulsive publicist aren’t the kind of people to gently ease into sharing a living space.
“It pretty quickly turns,” Cash tells TVLine, adding that creator Stephen Falk made sure that “it’s not a whole season about, ‘My God, there’s a tampon in the toilet!’ or ‘My God,...

Longmire is an absolute anomaly in the world of television, which could have something to do with the fact that it was pulled from A&E, despite consistently high ratings for the network. It’s also the reason that it was something of a no-brainer that it would be picked up by someone else, and season four will air on Netflix later in the year.
Where the first two seasons pulled us slowly into the depths of Sheriff Walt Longmire’s life on the sprawling plains of Wyoming, the third season is like the hammer blow that follows the slow, methodical wind-up.
The second season ended by bringing a lot of forces to the fore in a move of plot construction that brilliantly weaves angles and conspiracies into a show that actually makes it difficult to look away. The third season spins this all together, but uses a mode of...

In September, I, along with a few other writers, had the chance to visit the Chicago set of USA Network’s hit comedy series Sirens, which follows the professional and personal lives of three EMTs in the Windy City.
