The series was cancelled after its second season without providing closure to the story. Fans have started a petition to SundanceTV to renew this series for another season titled: "sundance-TV-the-fans-red-roadies-of-the-red-road-want-you-to-renew-this-amazing-show-for-another-season".
The original working title for the series was called "The Descendants". Walking the Red Road is a native American term: "Walking the Red Road" is a determined act of living within the Creator's instructions. Basically, it is living a life of truth, humbleness, respect, friendship, and spiritually. Those on this road are by no means walking a perfect path, but are in search of self-discovery and instructions. " (ref Native American Commitment to Wellness and Respect Blog, David A. Patterson Silver Wolf).
Presumably the new title came from that term.
Jason Mamoa (Phillip) and Lisa Bonet (Sky) are married in actual life.
