      In Days Of Old

Back before his celebrated feud with Jack Benny, Fred Allen was a monologist on the vaudeville circuit. He also wrote and starred in this early Vitaphone short, in which he breaks into a Broadway producer's office to pitch him three pointless short plays.

It's clearly intended as a satire on the sort of high-brow play that was coming out in those days, winning lots of awards and boring the audience with their lack of sensible drama --- as someone who likes a strong story line in my fiction, I can appreciate their feelings.

So, apparently, did Allen. The best lines are reserved for the insults uttered by. Herbert Miller as the producer.
