Firstly... let me say that I've only watched series 3.

As a Builder. As, more to the point, a professional builder, I have to say that I've never, ever witnessed more incompetence, more sheer 'hit it with a bigger hammer' building techniques in my life.

Even the most elementary stuff, e.g. squaring up a foundation, are techniques beyond the skill of most of the guys.

I wouldn't trust most of them to build an outhouse.

That said, the show is funny - and as someone who has taught building... from framing to foundation laying - that's NOT good.

Building a home for someone is a job for professionals.

I do understand that their dealing with the extremes of weather that you get in Alaska (and yes, I have worked there) but putting yourself and your workmates at risk is NOT an acceptable exchange for competence or money.

This show only showcase rich people ... not the real Alaskans ... I wonder how many of the people who are having their house built in the show are even from Alaska or is it just their summer home .... helping the rich get richer .... I have lived in Soldotna most of my life ... this show is not for the every day man but if you want to watch some rich guy have his house built this is the show for you ...
