Exclusive: Netflix’s plan to cook up a Willy Wonka reality competition series has moved to the next part of the factory.
Deadline understands that Fremantle-owned Eureka Productions has won the right to produce the show after a bake-off process.
The process has been taking place over the last few months with Eureka beating out a number of other production companies including Wall to Wall, the British production company behind Who Do You Think You Are?, Nobody’s Hero, the production company behind Netflix’s Bullsh*t: The Game Show, and The Garden, which was one of the companies behind Squid Game: The Challenge. It also beat out American Idol producer Fremantle, which was in the running for a separate bid to make the show out of its U.S. unscripted production arm.
As one source told Deadline it came down to “which pitch do we like the most?”.

Exclusive: Netflix has turned to the co-producer of Squid Game: The Challenge to secure access to elite UK emergency medics for a docuseries.
Under the working title Critical, The Garden is in production on a six-part series embedded with top paramedics, doctors, nurses, and surgeons from across London.
Netflix is planning to stream the series in 2025, with The Garden following the stories of patients brought back from the brink of catastrophe through the eyes of those administering live-saving treatment.
The Garden has rich experience in producing similar docuseries for UK broadcaster Channel 4. It has made 33 seasons of 24 Hours in A&e, while Emergency gained access to London’s major trauma network.
Unlike 24 Hours in A&e, however, Netflix’s docuseries will not use fixed-rig camera filming techniques. The action is being captured on portable single cameras and bodycams.
The Netflix series is directed by Jermaine Blake. Spencer Kelly is the executive producer,...

As a seasoned Met Gala attendee who has made several trips up the iconic Met stairs, Nicole Kidman lived up to her elegant reputation by reviving a 1950s vintage gown for her return to the gala this year.
I love how she subtly interpreted this year’s theme, opting for a bespoke black-and-white Balenciaga gown instead of the more popular whimsical floral motif. Some, however, weren’t impressed by her ostensibly typical black-and-white look, which they assumed deviated from the evening’s “The Garden of Time” dress code.

This year’s Met Gala was attended by a memorable guest list of musicians including Bad Bunny, Lana Del Rey, Dua Lipa, Janelle Monáe, and Cardi B, but Katy Perry was not among them. However, AI-generated photos of the singer on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art fooled many people into thinking otherwise — including her own mother.
AI renderings of Perry “attending” the annual event quickly went viral on Monday night, purportedly showing the artist wearing a billowing floral gown that would have fit with the dress code of “The Garden of Time.” So many social media users were tricked into thinking she went to the Met Gala that Perry herself had to debunk the images.
“Couldn’t make it to the Met, had to work,” Perry clarified in the caption of an Instagram carousel featuring two of the fake photos. She also shared a text message from her mother,...

Cynthia Erivo attended her first Met Gala in 2017.
“Walking on the Met Gala carpet that year was really fucking nerve-wracking,” she told me Sunday night at UTA’s pre-Met party at Nubeluz at the Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad. “I had just finished ‘The Color Purple’ [on Broadway]. I went with Coach.
“I was new so I didn’t know what to expect,” she continued. “It’s that weird thing where I was like, ‘I don’t know if I’m supposed to be here.’ It was a lot of imposter syndrome.”
Monday’s gala will mark Erivo’s sixth time in attendance.
Asked to describe this year’s look, Erivo teased, “It’s almost like I have run through a garden and things have fallen on me.” Her signature long nails were already in place on Sunday—they’re an earthy palette and decorated with small flowers and foliage.

Studio Lambert has introduced the world to Gogglebox, Race Across the World and The Circle but the indie has faced its greatest test in Netflix’s Squid Game: The Challenge, and the road has been a bit of a bumpy one.
Stephen Lambert’s 15-year-old British production house, which its founder says is having its busiest year following a strategic shift to “go big” on premium unscripted, took on its grandest undertaking when Netflix gave it the weighty reins to the Squid Game competition series.
Alongside fellow UK indie The Garden, Studio Lambert has subsequently overseen a competition with 456 contestants – about 20 times that of the average reality show – with the largest prize fund in history.
