The role of Jack's mother is played by John Adams' real-life Aunt Betty. John's mother has a cameo as the fly fisher Jack and Frankie rob.
Knuckle Jack was made entirely by the Adams/Poser family, otherwise known as Wonder Wheel Productions - John Adams, Toby Poser and their two daughters, Lulu and Zelda. Between the four of them, they write, direct, shoot, edit, score and act in their films. Even the girls help operate the camera. For Knuckle Jack, Lulu (then 13) decided she wanted to try being on the other side of the camera, and she both assisted with direction and shot much of the film. The characters of Jack and Frankie are played by real-life dad and daughter, John and Zelda Adams. The Woman Without a Name is played by Zelda's mother and John's wife, Toby Poser.
Knuckle Jack was 1/3 completed when the red '66 Mustang featured in the film blew up. (This wasn't scripted.) Also, the lead actor playing Jack (John Adams) had to have major surgery on his foot. When production started back up, they started fresh with a new car (the blue rusty pickup) and a new (real) limp for Jack-- both better choices for Jack's character.
Won Jury Award for Best Feature at Cinema at the Edge (film festival) 2013.
From Los Angeles International Film Festival (2013), won: Best Editing and also Best Original Score for John Adams (who plays Jack) and Honorable Mention for Best Feature.
