As you can see, this pilot has a few haters who left horrible reviews. Every filmmaker is going to have jealous haters and we are no exception. But I will say that this show is very original. We did not copy-cat anything we had ever seen before, as we only do original material.
While it is true that we did not have the best sound quality it is because on our first weekend of production, our entire audio crew bailed on us on the morning of day one, and so we had to wing it. So then of course we could not change how we recorded sound after that weekend or it would not match. So we did the very best with what we had available.
Most all of the actors involved in this pilot are veteran stage actors with many years experience. All but one is still very much involved in making movies in the Midwest. All of these actors absolutely loved the premise of this show and believed in it highly. The writer and Executive Producer is still proud of this project because it is different from the TV shows today. It is something you could sit down and watch as an entire family. No need to make the children leave the room for fear of obscene language or sexual behavior. It was a fun show to shoot, we had a lot of laughs. We posted the completed project on YouTube and had so many fans beg us to film a part 2, so one year later we did. And if you watch both of them, you can see how we improved and grew in our filmmaking efforts.
The whole idea behind this show is to have a clean family friendly show about senior citizens FOR the senior generation to enjoy, because not everyone likes watching shows that deal with sex, violence, strong language and homosexuality. So please, before you dis this pilot, please watch it, part one and part two. We make no apologies for this project. We have every reason to be proud.

As a big fan of Dreams Come True Films I was so thrilled when they produced Old Folks Like Us and put it on their Youtube channel for their fans. I just wish they could have produced a third episode.
It's nice to see a family friendly show that you can sit and watch with the entire family. I will say that it was well written and the actors had really good chemistry which is of course important to the success of any project.
While I liked them all, I think my favorite couple was Harold and Ruby Young, played by David Ross and Joann White. The antics of Harold will crack you up. But the attitude on Ruby will really surprise you (for a little old lady, LOL). But be sure to watch part 2 for an extremely impressive performance by first time child actor Jace Jackson!!
I for one think this would make for a great TV series on a national stage if it got in the right hands. Whether you are 25 or 65 there is something for everyone and it's a must see TV pilot. Well done cast & crew of Old Folks Like Us.

I will start by addressing the elephant in the room. If you are a "review checker" of films, etc before you try it yourself, you will notice that on March 30th a very ugly review was left by someone who also trolled the short film Guilty that this production team did in 2012. Mrs. Beard explained who the troll was and why "He" left the derogatory comments. So pay no mind to his hateful comments. This TV pilot comedy is actually very good and has rave reviews on their You Tube channel. That's how I saw this comedy. It was so popular with the fans that they actually did a part 2, so there's that.
Do they have famous actors in this? NO! But they do have senior and seasoned stage actors who love to perform and make people smile. Did they have the greatest sound you have ever heard on a film? NO! But Mrs. Beard explained that their entire sound crew bailed on them at the last minute the first weekend of filming away from home; that is very unfortunate and sometimes in life you just cannot control what happens to you and you have to accept it and make the best of it.
Was the laugh track a little off? Yeah, okay. But what does it have? Old Folks Like Us has an original concept, it has funny actors (most of them!) and it is clean enough for the entire family to watch together without embarrassment or shame. In other words, there is (Don't fall over in shock when I tell you!) no nudity, no profanity, no sex and no violence. So for this reason, I must highly recommend it. I am so sick and tired of the garbage that rolls out of Hollywood. And I am frankly so sick and tired of all the re-boots! Give me a break, Hollywood. If you can't come up with new projects, maybe it's time to give independent creators a shot at the brass ring!

Couldn't get through the first 3 minutes. Acting was poor, jokes were not even enough for a smile and laugh tracks added unnecessarily. There was entirely too much money/time spent on this project. I hope the writer/director doesn't take this the wrong way it just was not even "independant" looking, more like what an 8 year old would throw together. The fact that it was viewed as many times on YouTube leads me to believe that the cast and crew have many friends and family who are trying to show support. There is no reason to watch the entire production. The music and lead in seemed to be produced okay but that is about the nicest thing I could say about this "Pilot" and that's even a stretch.

I have to agree with the previous comment. Looking at the credits page, I have never seen so many associate producers on a film. The credits also show similar last names, as it appears that the writer, director, producer, etc., are all in the same family. I can't help but wonder if they are actually serious about making a film, or if this was just a "fun" project to do and take up bandwidth. Laugh tracks are overused, the punch lines and "jokes" are not funny, the audio is horrible, and the acting is sub-par. Looking at the production company's Facebook page, it seems that they are begging for people to "like" the film, which I'm sure accounts for the number of views and likes that they are getting from friends and family. I hope the aspiring actors on this project realize that they are doing a disservice to their career by associating themselves with this film. This "pilot" is very poorly written, filmed, edited, and directed. I doubt that there was a separate audio track recorded as the behind the scenes pictures on the Facebook site only showed a small DSLR and no other audio recording capabilities (boom pole, external microphones, etc.). It certainly is noticeable that the sound quality is, well...horrendous, and that they relied on the camera to record their audio. Finally, it looks like one character is a total ripoff of Vickie Lawrence's character in "Momma's Family".
