Filmed on an iPhone 5S, using the RarevisionVHS app to shoot the grainy VHS section, and the phone's regular HD camera, using the built-in slow motion feature for the final moments.
The blood used in the ending was fake spray-on blood, left over from the making of the director's previous short film, "Fangs".
This short was conceived, filmed, edited, completed, and uploaded to YouTube within the whirlwind course of just over 6 hours, on the evening of October 31st, 2016.
Whereas the director's previous short film, "Fangs," had a meager budget of £5.50 to cover the cost of cheap store-bought props, "Trick" had no budget at all, due to the preexistence of any props used in the film, and the spontaneity of the film's conception and completion in just one night.
The house exterior and interiors were shot in and around the bungalow that the director lived in at the time.
