- Feluda and Topshe are to solve a case in Gangtok assigned by Mr. Sasadhar Bose. They are to look into the accidental death of his business partner Selvankar. What role does the Yamantaka idol play?
- Feluda and Topse meet Sasadhar Bose in Gangtok. Bose urges Feluda to investigate his business partner, Selvankar's horrific death in a car accident on the hills. Feluda smells foul play in the so-called accident and finds out about a coveted Yamantaka idol which was in Selvankar's possession. Rinchen Gonpo, a policewoman of Tibetan ancestry, is investigating the case. She is asked to retrieve the Yamantaka - a prized national heritage. Feluda meets a series of characters who become crucial to the investigation. First is Nishikanto, a bumpkin, who sold Selvankar the Yamantaka statue. Next, Feluda chances upon a German photographer, Helmut, who got acquainted with Selvankar days before his death. Feluda learns from Helmut that Selvankar was looking for his estranged son in Gangtok. Meanwhile, inspector Gaitonde of Mumbai branch finds connections of a drug racket operating via SS Chemicals - Selvankar's perfume company. Attempts are made to kill Nishikanto and death threats are given to him. Feluda also meets a mysterious man named Dr Baidya, who claims that Selvankar's son has killed him. As surrounding nefarious forces close in on Feluda, he and Rinchen joins forces to seek out Selvankar's murderer. Will he succeed?—Promita Mukherjee
