Exclusive: Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara have set a record for Prime Video after Culpa Tuya (Your Fault) became its biggest international original launch ever.
The Spanish-language YA movie follows a romance between Noah (Wallace) and Nick (Guevara) and bowed on Prime in December. It was tipped to launch strongly after the success of Culpa Mía (My Fault), the first movie in Mercedes Ron’s Culpables trilogy, and has duly delivered.
Culpa Tuya rocketed to the number one spot for Prime Video in more than 170 countries, including Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Italy and Mexico, data from Amazon and seen by Deadline reveals. It has become the streamer’s top international original launch in any language. The likes of German TV series Maxton Hall – The World Between Us and fellow Spanish pic Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, both of which came out last year, also put in strong showings.

Remember that sudden explosion of zombie media that was sparked by the success of AMC’s The Walking Dead back in 2010? While the popular opinion these days is that the oversaturation of zombie stories ended up taking all the bite out of the genre, I actually think that this period offered up a bunch of truly interesting (and often deliciously meta) takes on a familiar premise – you just had to know how to find them among the cheap cash-grabs and knock-offs.
One such gem happened to be Manel Loureiro’s Apocalypse Z, a Spanish blog about a crafty everyman protagonist attempting to survive a more realistic take on the zombie apocalypse. Over time, the blog became so popular that Loureiro ended up publishing the ensuing saga as a trilogy of novels following Francisco and his cat throughout their journey across a zombie-infected Europe.

Chris Pine's directorial debut, which he also stars in, has become a streaming success despite its dismal 22% Rotten Tomatoes score. Pine is perhaps best known for his franchise roles, starting with Captain Kirk in the Star Trek reboot movies, which include 2009's Star Trek, 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness, and 2016's Star Trek Beyond. From there, he also starred as Steve Trevor in the Dceu movies, 2017's Wonder Woman and its 2020 sequel, Wonder Woman 1984.
Outside of franchise fare, Pine first rose to prominence for his roles in romantic comedies, including The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement in 2004 and Just My Luck in 2006. From there, he was cast in Star Trek, but continued to appear in other possible franchise-starters, playing Cinderella's Prince in Disney's Into the Woods and Jack Ryan in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. A 24-year-old Ridley Scott movie has become a modern streaming hit. At the age of 86, Scott continues to work regularly in Hollywood as a director and producer. He is responsible for some truly iconic films over the course of his 60-year career spanning a variety of genres. He's worked extensively in science-fiction with Blade Runner and multiple installments in the Alien franchise, but he has also returned time and time again to the historical epic, which he is set to return to once more with the upcoming Gladiator II.
Last year, Scott released the divisive Napoleon, about the titular French emperor, a sprawling film with a number of standout battle sequences. Prior to that, Scott went even further back in time with The Last Duel (2021), which earned generally positive reviews but was a box office disappointment. Other notable historical epics he directed include Robin Hood (2010) and Kingdom of Heaven (2005), the...

Aubrey Plaza's new dramedy with a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score tops a movies streaming chart. Starting her career in improv and sketch comedy, Plaza rose to prominence on Parks and Recreation as the sarcastic and deadpan April Ludgate, establishing her distinct comedic style. On television, Plaza has also showcased her range as a strait-laced lawyer in The White Lotus season 2, earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and starred in the Marvel miniseries Agatha All Along.
In film, Plaza started with a supporting role in Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and graduated on to leading roles in independent films, such as the Sundance hit Safety Not Guaranteed. In addition to starring, she started producing with The Little Hours and Ingrid Goes West, both black comedies, and also expanded her range to thrillers, starring in Black Bear and Emily the Criminal, all of which screened at Sundance.

After falling off the chart for two weeks, “Outer Banks” Season 4 is once again the top title on Luminate’s weekly streaming rankings. Thanks to the release of its second batch of episodes on Nov. 7, the Netflix teen drama was watched for 1.4 billion minutes watched during the Nov. 8-14 viewing window.
“Outer Banks” nearly doubled the viewership of the next-most-watched title, which was “Tulsa King” Season 2 with 810.5 million minutes watched. It was a strong week for Taylor Sheridan-created series; besides “Tulsa King,” both season of “Lioness” also made the chart. Prime Video's new apocalyptic zombie movie has become a streaming success. Amazon's streaming service has been consistently producing original movies since 2019, although they take on a variety of genres, they started making horror movies about a year in, including Black Box, The Lie, Nocturne, and Evil Eye. Since then, that roster has expanded significantly to include more movies, such as Bingo Hell, Black as Night, Madres, The Manor, Master, Goodnight Mommy, Nanny, and perhaps Prime Video's most popular horror movie, Totally Killer.
On the series side, one of Prime Video's most popular efforts is the post-apocalyptic drama Fallout, based on the Bethesda video game series of the same name, which has been renewed for a second season. Though some of its content could be categorized as post-apocalyptic, Prime Video has never directly dabbled in the zombie before. However, its first feature-length installment in the genre has recently seen an unexpected...

In 2024, “Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End” will become a thrilling Spanish zombie movie that people all over the world can’t stop watching. The movie, directed by Carles Torrens and based on Manel Loureiro’s famous book series, is a new take on the zombie genre, combining personal drama with post-apocalyptic survival.
In Spain, the movie is about a sad widower named Manel (Francisco Ortiz) whose life changes drastically when the Tsj virus spreads, causing a pandemic like rabies that turns people into violent, infected animals. Manel is alone in a world that is quickly falling apart after losing his wife in a terrible car accident. His beloved cat, Lúculo, is the only thing that keeps him company.
The movie is more important than just another zombie story. It’s not just another end-of-the-world show; it’s a complex look at how strong people are, with surprising connections to the recent Covid-19 pandemic.

If you’ve just finished watching Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End on Amazon Prime Video, you’re probably looking for something else to keep that post-apocalyptic vibe going. Well, you’re in luck, because two movies that would make for a perfect follow-up are The Road (2009) and 28 Days Later (2002). Both of these films share the same intense survival themes and emotional depth that make Apocalypse Z so gripping, but each has its own unique spin on the end-of-the-world chaos.
Let’s start with The Road, a film that’s all about survival in a destroyed world. Directed by John Hillcoat and based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy, The Road takes place in a bleak, post-apocalyptic setting where a father and his young son try to stay alive in a world with nothing but ash and cold. Like Manel in Apocalypse Z, the father and son in...

It's always interesting to see what the streaming services churn up as part of their endless effort to keep subscribers from abandoning ship. While Netflix is the undisputed king of the streaming game, Amazon's Prime Video isn't all that far behind it in terms of subscriber numbers, and is seemingly just as adept at dredging up forgotten films only for them to experience a modest renaissance as a result. Take, for instance, the time a spooky family movie with a hilarious Clint Eastwood cameo hit the Prime Video charts for the Halloween season.
Of course, the other side of the streaming coin is new "content." All the big streamers produce their own films and TV shows as part of the aforementioned battle against subscriber churn, whether by producing them in-house or buying the rights to exclusively distribute finished projects. Now, Prime Video's latest exclusive has managed to become a global hit.

Spain has given us some masterful films about the walking dead over the years, including The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue, Tombs of the Blind Dead and its sequels, and more recently the Rec franchise. Now we have Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End (Apocalypse Z: El Principio del Fin) based on the first book of novelist Manel Loureiro’s Apocalypse Z trilogy about a cat-loving lawyer’s struggle to survive a world overrun by zombies.
A year after losing his wife in a Christmas Eve car crash, Manel still hasn’t recovered mentally. He lives alone with his cat Lúculo and ignores the news broadcast on his television about a fast spreading pandemic, the Tsj Virus, that’s throwing the world into chaos.

We can all agree upon the fact that the zombie genre, despite being done to death, is functionally immortal when it comes to pop culture. “The Walking Dead” franchise is still going on (even though the spin-off shows have mostly been so-so); “The Last of Us” has an excellent HBO adaptation of the first game, and the second one is on the pipeline; and then every now and then a zombie movie/series pops up. It only proves that the appeal of this genre is not dying down, and a movie like Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End is a burning example of that. Directed by Carles Torrens, the movie is adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Spanish author Manel Loureiro. Since I haven’t read the novel, it is hard for me to say how faithful the movie remains to the book, but as a movie,...
