Pamela Anderson delivers a career best performance in The Last Showgirl, but her next role will call upon a completely different talent from the character drama. Known best for her breakout role in Baywatch, Pamela Anderson has remained a fixture of pop-culture for decades even if she hasn't always received the respect she deserves. Shows like Pam & Tommy have capitalized on her story, while the actor herself has consistently worked in the industry since 1990. However, her latest performance, released almost thirty-five years after her screen debut, highlights her full talent.
The Last Showgirl has won Pamela Anderson the best reviews of her career, even earning her a Golden Globe and SAG Award Nominations for Best Actress. It's been an impressive showing from Anderson, and speaks to her true potential as a dramatic actor. While she does have dramatic films currently in the works (like Karim Aïnouz's upcoming adaptation of...

After scoring her first Golden Globe nomination for her star turn in The Last Showgirl, Pamela Anderson caught up with Deadline to tease upcoming projects and discuss what this long-awaited moment in her career means to her.
In terms of upcoming films for Anderson at present, the buzziest would have to be Paramount’s The Naked Gun reboot, in which she stars opposite Liam Neeson, who she says she adores. “It was physical comedy, so it’s completely different,” Anderson says. “I’m literally running into walls, so I’m really excited about that one.”
Then, there’s Rosebush Pruning, a thriller in which she stars opposite a slew of “incredible young actors” including Riley Keough, Elle Fanning, and Lukas Gage. That project called for “a very serious, classic style of acting,” Anderson says, “which is really fun to be around because it’s always the stuff I responded to.

Pamela Anderson returns to the screen in The Last Showgirl, and the trailer for the film has landed. Right here.
Pamela Anderson will always be indelibly intertwined with Baywatch, the campy drama in which she starred for five series between between 1992 and 1997, returning for a cameo in the 2017 feature film.
But she also ventured into other films too. She starred in cult superhero film Barb Wire in 1996, and she also had a memorable cameo in Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat. In fact, she was one of the few actors in on the gag where the titular character attempts to marry her by ensconcing her in a sack and carrying her out of her book signing.
She has made only sporadic appearances onscreen in recent years though, but now Pamela Anderson is getting awards buzz for her leading performance in The Last Showgirl.

“Cops and women don’t mix?” It seems they do, as Pamela Anderson is readying for “The Naked Gun” with Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., produced by Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins.
“Liam is hysterical in it,” she said at Zurich Film Festival.
“I just finished it. I am also doing ‘Rosebush Pruning’ with Karim Aїnouz in Barcelona. We rehearsed every single scene and we did a lot of improvisation in character – we even had family dinners in character. Karim is unbelievable,” she said about the buzzy next project, an ensemble drama featuring Elle Fanning, Callum Turner, Riley Keough and Jamie Bell.
Aïnouz is behind “Firebrand,” while Efthimis Filippou (“Kinds of Kindness”) wrote the script.

How’s this for an epic cast list? Karim Aïnouz‘s “Rosebush Pruning” had enough hype surrounding it already: Elle Fanning as the star; Efthimis Filippou penning a script that adapts the 1965 classic “Fists In The Pocket“; Mubi, The Match Factory, and Fremantle‘s The Apartment footing the bill. But the ensemble Aïnouz cast around Fanning now makes his follow-up to “Motel Destino” one of next year’s most anticipated films.

Shot between his directing Alicia Vikander in “Firebrand” and Kristen Stewart in “Rosebushpruning,” “Motel Destino,” which bows in Cannes Competition on May 22, can be seen as a return by Brazil’s now most international director to his Brazilian roots.

An erotic thriller, “Motel Destino” turns on Dayana, the young wife of a roadside sex hotel owner who seduces on-the-run minor mobster Heraldo for great sex. But she soon conceives the idea of his helping her to kill her terrifyingly abusive older husband.
“I was really interested in a kind of Brazilian interpretation of melodrama and noir cinema, how to take genre, which begins in Hollywood, and appropriate it make it local and ours,” Aïnouz tells Variety.
“Motel Destino” is melodrama “in the sense these characters that are trying to survive, by any means.

Karim Aïnouz’s “Motel Destino,” which began filming last week, has eroticism, a recurring element in his films, as the backdrop. The Match Factory is selling the international rights.
His eighth fiction feature marks a return to the director’s Brazilian roots after having shot his first English-language production, “Firebrand,” starring Alicia Vikander and Jude Law, which played in competition at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Aïnouz won the Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes in 2019 for “Invisible Life.”
“Motel Destino” is an “intimate picture of a youth whose future has been stolen by a toxic and oppressive elite, against which rebellion and violence are often the only possible way out,” according to a press statement.
“‘Motel Destino’ is, above all, a love story,” Aïnouz said. “The love between a peripheral young man who lives against a system that wants him dead and a woman who resists the attacks...
