Started production before Covid hit, they worked a few weeks and had to shut down suddenly when the pandemic spread. The production was stopped for a year and then they went back into action and finished the film, over all from start to finish it was two years in the making.
The first JK Studios film to be given an MPAA rating, whereas their last film: Go West, had no rating.
A crowdfunding operation was launched to help bring the movie to theaters. The objective was to get funding for prints and advertising.
They raised more than $100K for 1256 backers, of which 544 were promised a digital copy of the movie (in exchange for a significant $40).
"Get a digital copy of Villains Inc. to enjoy anywhere! Laugh in the lair, cackle in the car, ROFL with a waffle - the point is, this digital version lets you experience "Villains Inc." anytime, anywhere".
Instead, the backers were offered a link to a streaming website, outraging the backers.
