"Long Ago, Not Far Away" follows everything that the previous episode built and lay the foundation to everything that will come.
The slow burn is real. This is an example of an episode that does not limit itself on what it should do. Really, "The Foundation" strives at being what it wants: a grand, epic and philosophical science fiction series with superb acting.
The cinematography and both production and costume design are stellar on an already outstanding episode. Everything comes together and, ind the end, you just want it to continue.
Amazing.
Lastly, apart from everything, as others have already written, the special effects in this series really deserve recognition.
Another theme: how arrogant those in positions of power can be when they think they have all the insight;
And another: Time. From realising that we are not quite when we thought we were, to showcasing a four dimensional analytical engine;
And another: lies.
All weaving together, reinforcing and tearing at history, in a constant tug of war between what *could* be and what *will* be; between the great sweep of stochastic force and the non-linear importance of inflection points.
Good heaven's this is storytelling of the highest order and, still, we will only know in the next episode if they have 'stuck the landing'.
But that was a quite stupendous amount of fun. Weep, NTBers, weep.
Everything is finally coming together.
I could never imagine that such epic is possible in science fiction.
From the beginning to the end, everything was perfectly written, acted and animated (and oh god how perfect the cgi is).
The episode starts with a flashback. Right from the beginning you can already see that this episode is going to be outstanding. And here I just want to quickly praise the fantastic actress of Demerzel (Laura Birn), she definitely has become my favourite character.
I probably don't even have to say it but Lee Pace literally blossoms in the role. Keep going guys!!
Fantastic fantastic, I can't really say anything more than praise and more praise. Foundation has officially won my heart.
I started watching this as a book reading sceptic. It's won me over and I don't want this season to end.

- TriviaThe Foundation never bothered with the Encyclopedia Galactica, Empire is told. In Asimov's books, it continued as a minor function. It is often used for scene setting: a reliable source that may not know the full truth.

- Quotes
Demerzel: I am sometimes called away to other matters, as I am now. It happened often during your formative years, as I was trying to stitch up the fraying ends of Empire. You grew up with an uncertainty in mind and morals. I hoped initiating physical intimacy with you would give me the influence to correct your shortcomings. That failed. I apologize to you for what you have become. It was my oversight.
Brother Day: What have I become? I have become the Day who saw that change was needed, who made the change happen, who set up to father a new line. What have I become? I am a complete man.
Demerzel: No, you're a sperm led by its waving flagellum, mistaking its random motion for complexity. Now, go do what you will do, for it's too late to change you.
