Kim Taeri once again shows her quality, Establishing herself as an actress whose NEVER FAIL DRAMA.
Since the Trailer, Jeongnyeon has radiated the aura of a MASTERPIECE.
And sure enough After the first episode aired, Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born seemed to be a magnet to watch it again and again while waiting for the next episode.
Kim Taeri's sing Pansori is amazing, at first I thought it was lipsync, but it turns out I was wrong, KIM TAERI SINGS ALL THAT SONGS WITH HER OWN VOICE! It was proven after I watched the behind-the-scenes video of making this drama. I also heard that she studied and practiced for 3 years to sing Pansori, also practiced dancing, even visit Mokpo to learn dialects in preparation for her role as a shabby village girl like a potato who dreams of becoming a Shining Star "Prince" in new world named Yeosong Gukgeuk.
It's really amazing, this is a different level of hard work.

I've watched a lot of Korean dramas, but I've never been interested in historical dramas other than Kingdom, but I tried watching Jeongnyeon because of Kim Taeri from 2521, and i never thought i would be interested in Pansori and Korean traditional theater after hearing the actors sing it and perform it on stage in a drama scene. I even search and watched Gukgeuk Show on Youtube. I also wish that if I visit Korea I will have the opportunity to watch Gukgeuk's performance live. And visit the village where Jeongnyeon comes from. I heard this drama is from Webtoon, I want to read it but unfortunately it is not available internationally.
A delightful intro to a form of theater new to me, and it's addictive. My next question is where do I find more of it to watch from here in New England ... and with subtitles.
My major beef is that there wasn't more of the actual Pansori performances in the early segments, although I understand that would've disrupted the narrative.
However, even though this is a Disney-esque movie about a talented teen who bridges adversities into success, this production goes far deeper into performance, and performance preparation, than most such movies, and I am grateful for that.
The personal story at the heart of the narrative is good enough, and the performances keep the story affecting. Notwithstanding the previous reviewer's unaccountable grumpiness, the motives of the key characters are transparent. This is a genre movie (Disney again) but the historical setting and Pansori subject matter elevate it; the performances and story keep your interest with a bit of acceptable melodrama along the way.

Another masterpiece of Kim Taeri. So short yet so meaningful drama. All my emotion released to this drama Happiness,Anger,Sadness, being inlove and heartbreak. The acting of all the cast is a must see specially Kim Taeri. The best Actress for me she is so brave to do this role. A must see drama im so inlove with jeongnyeon and this is not an ordinary drama no doubt Kim Taeri choose this drama to portray because she didn't choose a role that easy to do she choose something that challenge her and this is the perfect role for her. Her acting was incredible I hope she can get another baeksang for this drama she deserved it for than anyone else.
I enjoyed every single performance in this drama. I don't understand why there are haters who write bad reviews about this drama, and it seems like they are writing nonsense without watching the drama. I was also surprised, when I saw the bad ratings in each episode, it turned out that many of them came from South Korea, which is where this drama originated. Uniquely, this drama shows Korean culture to the world, Even introducing the Korean Cultural Heritage recognized by UNESCO, namely Pansori, to the world very well. But Koreans who give it bad ratings as if it just like doesn't respect their own culture. Or is it because this is a drama with a female narrative? So the Korean people who are known for their patriarchy don't like it?
By the way this is a Good Drama from A to Z, its well made.
