Well that escalated quickly!!!
Tyler Perry does it again! As usual Tyler continues to be a part of black stereotypes and bad behaviour crew. Perfect man protecting the poor abused woman against the real bad man (not just flawed). It always has to be some over the top nonsense.
The actors always turn into these caricatures of themselves. Megan somehow turned into a female Rambo. Her best friend turns into the ghetto friend who keeps it real. And of course Corey is the angry, abusive black man. No need to address his generational trauma because that doesn't create enough drama. His acting in this is something to be desired in my opinion....
Good Lord, some originality would really be great after all these years but I guess TP writes what people want to watch.

This is not a perfect movie but it's definitely not awful. The opening scene kind of sucks you in, and it doesn't really let up. The performances are decent and the country setting is nice. Downside is you know where the storyline is going, and some of the decision making by the characters in the movie is downright dumb. Other than that, I believe it's worth the watch. The run-time is a little long at over 2hrs but it keeps your interest. As long as you don't go in expecting Oscar worthy performances with an Oscar worthy screenplay, you'll be fine. Quite frankly, just watch the movie and enjoy it without expectations!

The two stars are for the actors. We are so desperate to see black films that we keep watching Tyler Perry movies knowing the writing will be terrible. This one was terrible! He doesn't care the networks don't care we just have to stop watching and giving his movies viewership. I'm done the gimmick is over for me. No more Tyler Perry movies. It seems like he put a bunch of lifetime movies together to make one bad movie. The funeral scene was stupid. There was no plot building and the bad family seemed like a family from the 70's. I don't normally review movies only if it's really great or really bad. He just needs to stop.

This movie is really poorly written and yet the general idea is good.
Get better writers, take time to tell the story. Also get quality directors and editors.
In the last few years, Tyler Perry movies build up well, crescendo and fall apart all too quickly. That is due to poor writing or a discombobulated set of ideas. Viewers deserve better.
You get a great cast and quality acting but the final result is miserable. The score is poor as well.
Let's get back to high standards in telling these stories. No excuses. It has been done before.
Give it some finesse. Let's go!
What we watched was messy.

I will start with saying, the only reason this is 3 stars instead of 1 is purely down to the actors. The story line was dull, predictable and what has become in my opinion "typical Tyler Perry".
He should have quit writing years ago, yet he continues to whip up something quick, without care or consideration and ends up butchering everything for the sake of making a few bucks. No care for the actors and complete disregard towards the viewers experience.
I think it is time he stopped putting his name in the titles as people are just going to avoid the films, or go into it with a negative bias, simply for that from now on.

Tyler makes the worse movies about black people.
If you are an actor don't sell yourself for this buffoonery...the way it started I thought was a comedy. Such a waste of time. It never should have been made. My people...We're better than this...this is not entertaining, it's embarrassing and gives black actors and filmmakers a bad rep!
Writers room...Would help so much, maybe hire more talented people to help with your workload...this is like eating White Castle frozen food if I had to compare it to anything. Tyler just doesn't care anymore about his art, like seriously, mea culpa now this, you could care like a little more...Denzel would never be in this or will smith.

Tyler needs to stop making movies. This is as horrible as I knew it would be. I only watched just so I could be wrong. But nope... it is typical. Tyler has lost his touch. People need to stop saying movies are good just because they like the actors in it. I support black but I also value my time and this I cannot get back (sigh).
Richard Lawson and his wife (in the movie) are the only two actors that can act. I don't have anymore words but IMDB makes you write a whole novel before you can submit your review. So I will end with Typical, Not Good, Horrible. Only watch if you have NOTHING to do.

I am glad I watched the movie for myself and didn't listen to other reviews. The movie was very entertaining and I couldn't stop watching it until the end. It grabs your attention from the very beginning and flows well to each scene. I think some people love to be critical of Tyler Perry instead of actually listening to the theme or message he is trying to get across in his movies. Megan Good and Corey Hardict did a good along with the supporting actors keeping your attention. I recommend this movie if you drama with a touch of thriller to it! I have seen people in relationships like this so the movie also has some realistic aspects to it.

It's almost so bad it's good. Believe me, even the opening 5 minutes will give you an idea of the hilariously bad the direction of the movie is going. I'll go ahead and call it the "Church" scene. Overacting, bad acting and unusual acting methods from vetted actors. I know Tyler Perry movies... can produce some inconsistent results and performances. The over acting feels like theater, and its script is unrealistic and not relatable. The amount of swearing, screaming and random outbursts of verbal conflicts is every 5 minutes in this movie. But the camera work is definitely is insanely good. So there's that. That's why I have it a '2' and not '1'.

I sat down and watched this movie as I've always enjoyed Tyler Perry some of his previous works. I can say that I actually enjoyed this movie and felt that it was well put together. Were there plot holes that could have been explained better? Sure, but as someone who greatly enjoys thrillers, this movie definitely delivered. Meagan Goode was great in her role as were all of the other actors. I understand that this genre of movie may not be everyone's cup of tea but it is well work watching at least once. Definitely worth more than the 4.8 rating it has at this point. Decent movie and acting that.

I usually skip Tyler Perry films, but with Meagan Good and Cory Hardrict starring, I gave this one a shot-and I'm glad I did! Cory Hardrict delivered a spine-tingling performance, while Meagan Good triumphantly captured her character's journey of rediscovery. Although I found the initial treatment of the family unsettling, this film showcases Tyler Perry's evolving artistry, blending intense drama with deep, personal narratives. Debbi Morgan and Richard Lawson are always wonderful to watch on film. A truly engaging watch that surprised me with its depth and the strong performances of the leads.
Everyone was a fool in this movie.
Highly unrealistically dramatic. Everyone acting a fool including the "godly" folks encouraging the daughter to date, flirt, whatever while still married.
What a shiz show. I got so irritated with the silly script had to stop 2/3 of the way through.
Definitely not even close to Tyler Perry's other movies. Some better than others but all have been watchable for me.
Started out like a Jerry Springer episode. Was way overly acted to the point where you couldn't take it seriously. I figured I could at least enjoy the humor. Nope.
It got too annoying. Like those horror movie commercials where dumb victims hide amidst all the deadly weapons that can kill them. Just no.

I have never seen such a self hating director in my life. Tyler Perry needs to stop making movies today. This movie was horrible and Perry should be ashamed and shamed. Actors/Actresses did a good job though with this terrible writing and piece of garbage film. I would give this movie negative stars if I could. I loved the Madea plays when I was a kid because of the comedy and family. As I got older I realized Perry stereotyped black people and make black men look in only two dimensions. According to Perry as a Black Men you can only be a Thug or Savior no in between, but 99% of black males in his movies are thugs and 1% are saviors.

I'm not quite sure why some rated this movie as a 10 out of 10. This should have been on Lifetime and even on that platform it would be lowly ranked. Bad acting, bad plot, bad dialog, bad direction, etc., etc., amounts to one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It's just bloody painful to watch. Tyler Perry is no great director, and this will probably sink his career. I will admit to being not much of a fan of his body of work, in fact his best work was as the hotshot lawyer in Gone Girl. Save yourself some time and your sanity and skip the 2-hours and 30-minutes of this tortuous film. Look elsewhere, unless, of course, you're a lonely divorcee and proceed with caution.
I have to say that this was absolutely the worst movie of 2024. The acting was not good compared to other Tyler Perry movies. I actually signed up for this account after watching this to leave this review. Yes, it was that bad. Some parts of the movie were decent but dragged out in my opinion. Like I said, the acting completely blew it for me. The beginning was decent, the middle was dull, and the end took to long. I had high hopes that this movie was going to be good. I was definitely wrong about that one! Hopefully the next movie will be better, I don't see how it could get any worse honestly.

The movie is all over the place. I hated every second of it, but once your invested you want to see how it turns out. Waste of time. I expected more from Tyler Perry. There is just so many flaws in the plot and with the characters. You have scenes where certain characters are driving to and from different towns with 1 hour and 15 mins apart yet the main characters seem to turn up their magically with time not impeding on them. The "bad guy" is at every location while other still driving to get there. Than daddy goes to confront him and he's no where to be seen but he's magically hiding behind the tree and all his brother are ready to beat daddy up with equipment. Make it make sense.

This is one of the worst movies that Tyler Perry ever produced and directed. The plot doesn't make much sense and there's cursing throughout the whole movie in which is awkward being a Tyler Perry's movies compared to all the drama movies he had made in the past. Megan's good acting was weird in this movie I didn't like it and the other actors wasn't great either I won't ever watch this again and don't waste your time if you looking for a well entertained movie. The beginning was good at the church but after that it was a complete disaster I fast forward it until I seen a scene that was interesting. I do not recommend this movie compared to the last ones he previously produced.

This was not a good movie, but it was entertaining. Meagan Good did a good job along with Hardict. The plot was predictable but it had some surprising moments. It seemed like all of the actors tried to do their best with their designated roles.
I think the weakest part of the film was the man by the name of "Benji" who was always attracted to "Ava." These two lacked chemistry and their "sex scene" was clumsy and awkward. Her husband did a much better job as the bad guy.
The cinematography was very good in this movie. That's usually a complaint of mine when it comes to Tyler Perry movies. I think this movie is worth watching. It kept my interest throughout the film. That says a lot.

Tyler Perry please stop making films. This movie was so dumb. Like c'mon common sense is lost. Horrible.
Meagan good deserved better. This was just an awhile movie, cheesy script, horrid acting... The plot just demented. Like are people really that dumb out in the real world?
But seriously Tyler Perry needs to stop like 10 years ago. These actors deserve better. Like dang.
It started off decent. Then about 10 minutes into it you burst into laughter and wtf. Just a bit no.
Such a waste of 2 hours. So many times a person with common sense who watches this movie will be like... Nah no one is that stupid.. but this movie proves us wrong I guess.

I truly enjoyed watching Mr. Tyler Perry's latest movie, Divorce in the Black. The movie is entertaining, fun to watch, and it provides much needed laughter especially in the current political climate... just for clarification "the movie is not political"...yet, the movie gives those of us who tend to care about our democracy, a reprieve wherein we can laugh in spite of what going on political,
I admire Mr. Perry's ability to reach out to actors and actresses who are still exceptional in their profession yet, they are not given opportunities in Hollywood. Needless to say, I love seeing Richard Lawson, and Debbie Morgan in this movie, and of course Megan and Cory were exceptional in their roles. The entire cast was on point. Of course, having a Black Choir in this movie was icing on the cake.
In summary- Thank you, Mr. Tyler Perry for a job well done. Please continue your outstanding work🙏🏽

I'm not necessarily a fan of Tyler Perry's work, but this film got the job done. With the exception of the lead actress, all the actors in the film did an excellent job. This would have gotten a higher rating from me if she had been a stronger, and more believable character. Her husband and his family, in particular his mother were outstanding in their despicable personalities and actions. The preacher and his wife were also a highlight of character acting. In the film, as you struggle along with the lead actress in her life, we watch various people do things that seemed natural and often had really bad outcomes. Just like real life. There were also moments we were both saying "oh come on...don't do that!"
The movie has guts and overall a tense ride with real people doing real things and somehow getting through it all. Recommended!

If I could give it 0 stars I would. Anyone giving this movie more than 5 stars has to be part of his team. I think to myself this time will be different and it never is. I made it 10 minutes and I was done. I'm so sick and tired of seeing the same old story over and over again. It's literally rinse and repeat. I don't understand how someone with his wealth will not hire writers to help with creating better scripts. TP has the potential to be great but his greed to have the spotlight on him and him alone will keep his movies/tv shows very lackluster. I've all but given up on TP coming out with anything that's worth watching.
