You have to watch this anime given expectations of what this is. It's an anime about Suicide Squad in an isekai. This anime is very clearly not taking itself very seriously and not looking to be anything groundbreaking. The more you just play along with the insanity the more fun and enjoy it you'll have.
The plot is fairly simply and standard for an isekai. Nothing revolutionary. As for its faithfulness to the DC source material, I would say it's like fairly loose with the characters. The background and overall feel of the characters stay pretty much in tact, but the writers definitely took liberties with their character personality at times. I would say try not to be a diehard DC fan while watching this. If you are going to get agitated with your favorite characters being different from the Comics, you should probably stay away form this show.
As for the animation for the first season, I will say that the animation is fairly rough for the first 5 episodes, especially that 5th episode (yikes). However, it would seem the animation budget went into the last 5 episodes, as Wit Studios really kicked it up a notch with the animations, so don't get to discouraged about the animations after watching the first 5 like most of the reviewers.
Overall, it was a fun 10 episodes to watch. It doesn't take itself very seriously and neither should you when watching it. If you have nothing to watch and want something to pass the time, I would say give this a crack especially given it's currently only 10 episodes.

This is a fairly well-animated show with an amazing English dub cast. The animation can look a bit off at times but all around is very good and Harley in particular has never been animated any better. Even if the writing doesn't click and isn't on par with your preferences there have been entertaining action segments in every episode thus far. The cast dynamics have been really; Harley and Deadshot in particular have had great team synergy and comedic chemistry.
It is very cheesy though and for some people that might be a turn-off and it is as of yet missing the edginess that accompanied that cheesiness in other recent suicide squad media. I don't mind this one bit as the jokes aren't a problem even when they don't land because of how hard the voice actors are working here and the action is present throughout the show.
The main story isn't anything special and I think everybody expected that as it seemed very obvious from the get-go, the character dynamics, action, and performances carry this show as was intended and I do believe these aspects will keep me engaged till the end. The show is such a deep breath of fresh because of how insanely saturated the superhero genre has become this decade. Even if the main narrative is fairly generic, this is very unique take for a superhero production.

I truly was hoping I would be able to side with the high reviews for this show, but it's just so awful on every level. The animation is bad, the voice acting is bad, the story is bad...it's all bad. I speak Japanese so after the first episode I switched from the English version to the Japanese. While this did improve things it just wasn't worth it for me to hang in on this one. The intros and outros are blatant rip offs of Cowboy Bebop. The only positive I can give it is the artwork/style of it is sleek and nice to look at but a bad show is a bad show.
I gave up 3-4 episodes in. If you know nothing about Suicide Squad or decent Japanese anime you might enjoy this.

I recently watched "Suicide Squad Isekai" and I'm still trying to process my thoughts about it. The show had its moments of humor, but overall, it felt like just another anime that didn't leave a lasting impression.
The premise of the show is intriguing - taking the concept of the Suicide Squad and transporting them to an Isekai world. However, the execution fell flat for me. The characters, while initially interesting, became one-dimensional and lacked depth. The storyline was predictable, and the pacing was slow.
One of the things that did stand out was the humor. There were some genuinely funny moments, and the show didn't take itself too seriously. However, the humor wasn't enough to carry the show for me.
The animation was average, with some moments of impressive action sequences. However, the character designs were unremarkable, and the backgrounds were forgettable.
Overall, I would say that "Suicide Squad Isekai" is a middling anime that fails to leave a lasting impact. While it has some moments of humor, it's ultimately just another show that gets lost in the shuffle.

When I saw this as "recently added" last year on Max, I was so hyped! I love DC, and I like (not love...just like) anime. I just started watching the Harley Quinn cartoon last year, and in general, I do love my DC animations since I grew up with them. They were a big part of my childhood. I was expecting this anime to have a DC vibe gone Japanese. You know the best of both worlds. The voice acting was pretty good. But my least favorite was Harley's.
In the middle of the show I thought to myself "Sooo um what the hell was the point of the Suicide Squad???!". This anime could've replaced the DC characters with any other characters from any universe. For me, I think that this anime would've been so much fun and engaging if they took villains (well-known or overlooked) from multiple genres of anime and had them in an Isekai setting.
I hoped the humor would be like that of the Harley Quinn animation! But there is some decent humor in this anime, and I did laugh out loud a few times. I was somewhat entertained, but I wanted that DC feel from it, you know?? That WAS the reason why I watched this anime. There were thrills and there was tension, but I couldn't get that vibe from the anime. I saw it, but I was not feeling it, you know? I enjoyed the fantasy world they were in (yeah I can't remember the name), and the storytelling was interesting, but at the end I no longer cared about the anime as a whole. I signed out.
Overall I was entertained but not completely satisfied. I could've skipped this one.

Coming from someone who enjoys James Gunn's Suicide Squad and watches a lot of anime, let me say it doesn't do either well. It was like watching a Saturday morning cartoon with animation only passable for children. The fight scenes were clunky and uninspired. The story was rushed and frankly uninteresting. And the characters were widdled-down versions of their DC selves. Was it terrible? No. God knows I've seen worse shows. But it was grotesquely mid. I relate it to Nickelback who tried to mix hard rock and country and couldn't really do either. So yeah, this show is for children and Nickelback fans. You decide which one you are.

It was enjoyable. I laughed several times. If you go in thinking it will be like the movie or the comic, you will be disappointed.
I really like the character redesigns. Clayface is just great in this version. I really like what they did with the Joker. Music is good. All and all a bit ridiculous at times and little strange, but it's fun. I'm sure not everyone is going to like it. It is more Anime, than DC.
The only major downside is that they didn't dub everything being said or bother to put up subtitles when they didn't. At some point they just stopped dubbing it entirely. I don't know if they are still adding them but after about 8 episodes, be prepared to read subtitles.

Highly recommend for any Suicide Squad / Peacemaker / Harley Quinn fans
I'm shocked DC opted for such good animation considering their style(s) prior! This storyline looks promising and really opens up the door to getting to know the characters personalities. It wouldn't be worth a damn without some really decent fight scenes and dashes of humor peppered throughout.
(Written First 3 episodes in)
The characters are all enhanced and their powers are stronger, even non metas, due to being in another world so I can't wait to see where they take this. If the anime style isn't your get down I would still recommend trying out the first 2 episodes and decide from there bc I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how enjoyable it is.

The only good thing about this anime is the drawing (not the animation).
Here are some synonyms for mediocre: Alright, Okay, Ordinary, Common, Average (this show is below average), Indifferent, Middle-Of-The-Road, Middling, Medium, Moderate, Everyday, Tolerable, Passable (5/10), Adequate, Second-Rate, Uninspired, Unexceptional, Unexciting, Unremarkable, Run-Of-The-Mill, Pedestrian, Prosaic, Lacklustre, Forgettable, So-So, Bog-Standard, Plain, Half-Pie, Dull.
I hope you learn something from this review because I sure did. My vocabulary expanded greatly thanks to this anime and I'll be able to describe other similar shows better in the future.

Story does not make a lot of sense honestly. You had the ability to make a suicide squad anime and you chose to put them in a one off fantasy land where there are really zero consequences for their actions? This show is so bad that you can take any other major team, replace the suicide squad with them, and for the most part the story largely remains unchanged. The suicide squad feels like an add on in this world that they created. What an absolutely squandered opportunity, they could have done a story that actually took place in the confines of the DC universe, yet they decided this piece of garbage was the way to go. Unless you're a hardcore suicide squad fan, this should be an incredibly easy pass for anyone else.

OH Yeah, I totally get it if some ppl don't like this. There has been quite a bit of Suicide Squad content the last few years. From the 2016 movie to the sequel a few years back. Birds of Prey might as well be a Suicide Squad movie but with the ladies. And then there's to majority criticized Kill The Justice League game, which ultimately left a sour taste in the majority of the fandom's mouths.
All this said, I would not be surprised if a majority of people disliked this. The series is nothing amazing. It's not trying to be the next Demon Slayer or One Piece. It's just an entertaining Suicide Squad series set in an anime setting, using the typical Isekai concept that anime fans know all too well.
But here's the truth, from a person who feels the same and most people about all the above.
Its good. Not great. But good.
The first episode is nothing to rave about. But the next three episodes especially the 4th one is the reason why I'm continuing the series. The voice actors are doing an awesome job, some of them seasoned VAs from popular anime that we all love. The story isn't perfect but having watched the last two episodes I can see a good story forming and the world is starting to come together.
I highly recommend fellow anime fans give this series a chance. It's worth it. Harley, Kingshark, Peacekeeper, and even Deadshot all get some funny moments and ultimately the anime is really just about the Suicide Squad getting into trouble and causing a little bit of chaos and violence.
I say, try it with an open mind. It's not bad at all.

In the eternal Marvel vs. DC debate, I find that DC keeps winning in terms of variety -- even if this doesn't always translate to financial success.
It's a tale as old as time, really. Just as the classic Warner Bros cartoons always seemed a little more daring than those of Disney, we now have Warner/DC giving us hyper-violent and stylized superhero media of the kind that Disney/Marvel would never do. (Even their recent Deadpool & Wolverine, which did seem to save the summer movie season, wasn't as out-there as some of Deadpool's best outings.)
If Disney were to make a show like this, the best we could hope for is another What If...? (maybe an X-Men '97 if we're lucky). No way we'd be getting an Isekai anime full of zany gore, gorgeously hand-drawn imagery, or villain protagonists that actually remain pretty nasty.
It's far from a perfect show, though. The CGI backgrounds are astonishingly janky at times and certain fights move too slowly, but the drawings and Mamoru Oshii-inspired interludes are things of beauty.
As Suicide Squad titles go, it doesn't live up to the chemistry, energy, and humor we get from these characters in the 2021 movie or even the Harley Quinn show. As Isekai anime goes, I'm told by aficionados that it's pretty unspecial in that regard too. At some points, it almost feels like the creator really just wanted to make an Isekai fantasy show but had to find a way to work in the Suicide Squad so as to make it more marketable; the plot involves them being sent into an alternate dimension full of knights and goblins where there's a whole other story taking place.
So yeah, I think the show is pretty middle-of-the-road. The rest of you can put this one in the "maybe" pile.

"Suicide Squad Isekai" is a unique fusion of the Suicide Squad's chaotic energy with the fantastical elements of an isekai world. The series stands out for its unique premise, stylish animation, and silly humor mixed in. Harley Quinn's voice actor shines brilliantly, bringing a dynamic and energetic performance that captures Harley's manic charm and carefree nature. It blends a bit of the classic Harley Quinn that old-school fans are used to with the modern style that was made famous by Margot Robbie.
In general, the voice acting for all the characters so far is well done. The story is decent though ultimately it's the humor and crazy antics of the squad that make it an entertaining series.
Overall, "Suicide Squad Isekai" is a fresh and fun take on the franchise, well worth a watch for fans and newcomers alike. I say give it a shot!

I think what needs to be understood is that this isn't the video game or the movies. This is an anime made by Wit Studio and the writers actually want to tell an entertaining story. It's not meant to be some sort of perfect 10/10 story. It's a silly anime with silly concepts.
Of course it's yet again another Isekai, which could likely put off people who are tired of Isekai content. But its actually pretty fun. I think it's important to just look at this outside the lense of DC or typical anime perspectives. The animators/writers are clearly trying to create a fun and interesting story while still bringing the familiar crazy vibes of the Suicide Squad. I suggest people give this a look, but only if you can enjoy a series objectively and leave bias out of it.
I went into this series wanting to hate it and really enjoyed it for what it is. It's not a perfect series, but it's meant to be a fun quirky experience for people who are willing to turn off their brain a little and just have some fun.
Voice Acting - 9/10 Characters - 8/10 Writing - 8/10 Animation - 8/10 Action - 7.5/10 Story - 7.5/10 Humor - 8/10 Music - 9/10
Overall Enjoyment: 9/10.

Fun show that knows about everything isekai and uses the tropes perfectly. The show strikes a great balance of fights and comedy for me.
As a lover of anime and DC cartoons this was the perfect combination for me and I was not dissapointed.
Only critique I have is that DC should stop relying so heavily on Harley Quinn. She is a fun/amazing character but it's getting kind of tired. That said, she fits perfectly here and I wish she got to use more of the worlds magic for silly things. I do wish however we got more screentime for world building. An establishment of the rules of the new world is a part I enjoy about isekai.
I'd definitely recommend this show, even if you dont enjoy anime and are just a regular DC fan there will still be enough to enjoy in this show.

One of the things I'm sure that people might be thinking is if this is just a cash grab series like the video game Kill The Justice League, which ended up being hated by many fans. I think it's safe to say it kinda is but in a good way. The truth is the Suicide Squad sells and I'm not surprised Wit Studio and Warner Bros decided to try to capitalize on this. It's definitely a lot better than the game. Harley is very much a mix of the classic version and the new version. Clayface, Peacemaker, and Deadshot are all entertaining to watch. And Kingshark is basically always eating people which is pretty funny.
The voice acting is good and the music is energetic and fun. The story itself isn't super complex but theres some interesting world building and the characters are definitely entertaining to watch. The animation is good, something that Wit Studio has always done pretty well with. It's not going to be the best anime of the year, but it's not going for that. The writers are making this for easy viewing and entertainment. It's pretty good overall and I recommend to anyone wanting to just watch something fun and laid-back. Not everything has to be serious, sometimes a little Isekai with Harley Quinn is all you need.
Give it a go, it's worth it.

While there are a few issues with the first two episodes, I would say that episodes 3 and 4 ultimately add a good layer of story and world building which ultimately helps elevate the quality of the series. The voice acting is done quite well and the animation is pretty smooth.
Anime fans looking for another Attack On Titan, I would say lower expectations and just enjoy the ride.
Suicide Squad Isekai is fun and silly, with a good story that seems to be developing slowly but nicely overall.
If you're looking for a fun anime, if you happen to be a DC fan, then you'll definitely enjoy this unique spin to the Suicide Squad. Harley Quinn and Kingshark definitely steal the show. And there's an interesting story unfolding involving a princess.
I highly recommend giving this series a chance. The first four episodes what sold it for me, hope other will feel the same. I will definitely keep watching.

This is the best show so far in 2024!
The animation is incredible and the lighting is amazing. The mix between 2D and 3D is an excellent choice, and the shading and colors look absolutely fantastic. The art style is perfect, and matches with the characters! The designs are great and look amazing with the characters! The storyline is interesting- it has a very unique story and plot. I'm not exactly into anime-this is my first one, but even I think that this is an excellent show! The plot and storyline of this show is extremely entertaining, and the characters and how they interact is excellent!
I highly recommend watching this show, even if you aren't into anime.

The series is pretty good so far. The first four episodes have been more and more entertaining. If you're looking for an incredibly written story you may be disappointed. This is clearly more like a Saturday morning cartoon/anime to have fun with. There's a bit of comedy, some violence (It's Suicide Squad. And there's Kingshark who literally eats someone every episode).
The characters are amusing and fun to follow. There's an interesting story/world forming. There's flashbacks to Joker which clearly is alluding to his possible involvement in the future of the series. The voice acting is pretty good, especially for Harley Quinn and Clayface who I feel have some of the better dialogue.
There's a unique narrative forming around a princess and her feelings towards the kingdom and the queen.
The animation is well done, and the music is exciting and really adds to the crazy vibe of the anime.
It's not a perfect A+ story/show. But it's still early and I think if the first four episodes can catch you, then you might enjoy it moving forward. I would recommend it for anyone just wanting to watch something a little more chill and funny.

This show keeps getting better! The animation also keeps improving! Episode 7 had such good fighting animation! I'm really loving this show!!! It's awesome that each of the characters has a unique wackiness to them. Also love seeing the magic and how magic is augmenting the characters' abilities.
This is not a super serious show with a complex plot. The plot is good, but it's not trying to be something it's not. This show is an action/comedy taking place in a typical isekai world. It's lighthearted and an easy watch. If you are looking for something more dramatic than that, this show probably isn't for you.

Perfect for any anime loving superhero fan, while it has its faults, it seems a bit fast paced, it perfectly blends together western action and superhero's with the eastern anime style. The fight scenes especially those of episode 3 are insanely well done, it makes the melee and ranger characters shine in large scale combat and emphasizes the characters personality's in the way they fight. The show so far has an great story with an interesting premise, taking already fantastical characters and placing them into a fantasy world, while the world itself is relatively generic for a fantasy world it incorporates the core fantasy elements you'd wish to see and is a nice playground for the main characters to play around with. The characterization of the main cast is genuinely superb and reflects their comic and on screen counterparts especially Peacemaker, Clayface and Harlequin who really shine in a way that reminds you of what the characters truly are. If you're someone who enjoys either anime or the Peacemaker show/Harlequin animated show. This is definitely a show I'd recommend.

So I think the most crucial thing to keep in mind is that this is not meant to be a super serious anime. This is literally a series about villains from the DC universal sorta acting like Anti-Heroes in an anime Isekai world.
The first three episodes are a sorta introduction arc. These are the characters, this is the world, and this will be the conflict. The fourth episode acts as a bridge between. Giving more context to the struggles of the Isekai world, some details about certain characters, and sets up for the next arc to begin. This isn't the typical DC show and yet it's also nothing new for anime fans. We're used to the Isekai trope so this might not be fore everyone. But honestly this series has some good dialogue, silly humor, and some pretty good animation most of the time.
Just leave your expectations behind and enjoy the ride. It's just another Isekai series with a DC twist. Harley Quinn and Kingshark are really the highlights so far. And what we've seen so far of The Joker has been overall entertaining and interesting. (4 episodes in)... Just enjoy it for what it is, and don't think too much. It's just a chill series.

Personally I like it. Nothing crazy or worth taking seriously but fun. So far feels like a satirical anime that's campy, like Kill La Kill. Animation is pretty, the designs of the characters are fun takes, personally I dig Clayface being this way very much an anime trope it suits him, Waller dance is hilarious (gifs are needed asap!), the dialogue is funny, and the voice acting is great. The story is meh for now and I'm not really into the Isekai/whatever is going on in the other world stuff, but honestly I wasn't expecting to even like it at all so I'm pleasantly surprised with how much I like it. Idk, Imo I just find it to be a good funny popcorn romp. Personally could really dig it if this show succeeds and gets more seasons but maybe like Archer there could be different themes(aside from Isekai) and characters (like the comics) each season?

The best way I can describe this show is a mix of Animated DC grit and seriousness with the humor of the James Gunn Suicide Squad, all taking place as an isekai (Portal to a fantasy world trope).
This is far better than most of the MCU movies, TV shows and the DC movies and shows coming out lately. While James Gunn has done a pretty good job overall, this take on the SS feels fresh compared to the recent SS and Harley Quinn movies and TV shows. There is a good mix of action and comedy. While the story is fairly generic, it leans into that fact and focuses more on the characters with them often subverting many of the tropes you would expect of a fantasy isekai.
Perhaps the best thing about the show is how well developed the character dynamics are. They are all capable and serious while still coming off as easy going and humorous. This version of Harley, Clayface and King Shark in particular are a great improvement over their counterparts on Harley Quinn. Harley in particular is both capable and competent without leaning into the cringey girlboss tropes that have infected most of western media as of late.
