Rosa Peral's Tapes

Rosa Peral's Tapes True Story Explained — What The Netflix Documentary Leaves Out
Image
Rosa Peral's Tapes is a Netflix true-crime documentary about a real-life murder case involving jilted lovers, arson, and police corruption, and for the most part, it gets the story right. Netflix true-crime documentaries are a genre unto themselves with everything from serial killers to strange exotic animal trainers getting the miniseries or single-movie treatment. True crime is simply too popular to fail and as long as there are lewd tales of revenge and violence happening in the world, then there are true crime documentaries just waiting to be made out of the material.

While many true-crime documentaries don't have a chance to get the perpetrators on camera, Rosa Peral's Tapes features the titular woman throughout the documentary. Even fewer documentaries feature former police officers as the main subjects and fewer still were released at the same time as a true-crime companion drama. Rosa Peral's Tapes, therefore, has some key unique...

Most Popular Documentaries Released on Netflix in 2023
Image
Pictures: Netflix

Welcome to another look back at the biggest hits of 2023. Today, we’ll look through the documentaries and docu-series that picked up the most points in the Netflix top 10s throughout the year.

This list is compiled with data from FlixPatrol, which tracks the daily top 10s in over 90 countries globally. Their data provides a daily snapshot of what’s trending in the TV and movie list by providing points to each title that features. Although we love their data, it’s neither perfect nor an exact measurement of viewership. Netflix does provide its own data on this front, but it doesn’t allow us to paint a big picture of what was watched most in 2023 as it stands.

Because documentaries feature in the movie lists and docu-series feature in the TV list, we’ll split them separately. We’ll have a look at the documentaries and docu-series to do best globally first,...

The fourth and final season of “Sex Education” has toppled “One Piece’s” reign atop Netflix’s global top 10 list of the most-watched TV series of the week.

“One Piece” held onto the coveted position for three weeks in a row. But on Tuesday, the streamer revealed it had been topped by the final season of the comedy “Sex Education,” which brought in 12 million views. It was then followed not by “One Piece” but by Season 2 of the true crime docuseries “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal,” which debuted in its first week with 7.6 million views. Season 1 of the series also re-entered the weekly list, bringing in 2.4 million views.

After “Sex Education” and “Murdaugh Murders,” “One Piece” took the No. 3 spot with 6.2 million views followed by Season 5 of “Virgin River” in...

Burning Body True Story: 7 Biggest Changes In Netflix's Show
Image
Content warning: This article contains mentions of violence.

Warning! Spoilers about Burning Body ahead.

Burning Body makes changes to the real story for dramatic purposes. For example, Burning Body changed the number of Rosa Peral's daughters, combining them into one character for simplicity. Another example is how Rosa's arrest in the series happens at her home, while in reality, she was informed of her impending arrest during a voluntary meeting.

Netflix’s crime show Burning Body is based on a true story, but there is a lot that the Spanish miniseries changed in adapting the story of the real 2017 murder investigation and trial following the death of a traffic cop. Originally known as El cuerpo en llamas, Netflix’s Burning Body retells a fictionalized version of the events that shocked the Barcelona police force in 2017, after the charred remains of a police officer were found in the Foix reservoir and...

The Murderous True Story Of Rosa Peral And Netflix's Burning Body
Image
The real story surrounding Netflix's latest true crime offering is tailor-made for tabloid fodder. Directed by Jorge Torregrossa and starring Úrsula Corberó ("Money Heist"), "Burning Body" serves as yet another cautionary tale about the tangled web we weave when secret love affairs, ghastly intrigue, and unthinkable acts of violence collide.

Based on one of Spain's most chilling murder cases referred to by the local press as "el Crimen de la Guardia Urbana" (the crime of the Urban Guard), the brutal killing of a police officer caused a media frenzy. On May 4, 2017, the remains of Officer Pedro Rodriguez were found among the ash of a torched automobile that had been completely engulfed in flames. It looked like someone had gone to great lengths to ensure that there was no physical evidence, a clear sign that the person or persons in question knew what they were doing. The only identifying signs...

‘Burning Body’ Real Story, Explained: Facts Vs. Fiction
Image
The story of Rosa Peral and the perplexing murder of her boyfriend, Pedro Rodriguez, is one of the most puzzling cases in Spanish criminal history. This 2017 murder case has been examined from two unique perspectives, providing us with contrasting views of the crime and passion involved. On one side, we have the thrilling Netflix series Burning Body, a fictional take on the events surrounding Pedro’s demise, portraying Rosa as the villain and the main culprit behind Pedro’s murder. Conversely, we find the Netflix documentary Rosa Peral’s Tapes, which offers a more factual exploration of the case, allowing us to hear Rosa Peral’s side of the story for the first time. Both narratives revolve around the discovery of Pedro’s remains inside a car near the Foix reservoir, but no concrete proof strongly indicates Rosa’s involvement in the case.

In the actual murder case of Pedro Rodriguez,...

‘Burning Body’ (2023) Review: Doesn’t Measure Up To The Quality Of The Netflix Documentary
Image
Netflix has just released an eight-part crime drama called Burning Body, inspired by the true events of the 2017 murder case of Pedro Rodriguez in Barcelona. Although the show is heavily inspired by true events and stays almost loyal to the key figures in the case, much of the storyline is fictionalized for dramatic purposes. The series presents a surprising twist, portraying Rosa Peral as a villain in stark contrast to the sympathy she evokes in the documentary Rosa Peral’s Tapes, released on the same day on Netflix.

The documentary had a clear purpose: to give Rosa Peral a chance to tell her side of the story and maybe show that she wasn’t guilty. It wanted to show, how her case was really complicated and how society often judges women unfairly in the legal system. Moreover, the documentary wanted to highlight, how someone’s personal life sometimes gets more attention than real evidence in court.

We want to understand her life, her choices, and how different she might be from the image the public has of her. By digging deep into her story, we hope to reveal the many sides of this intriguing and complex person, who is the heart of this bewildering murder case.

‘Rosa Peral’s Tapes’ (2023) Review: Did Rosa Peral Really Kill Pedro?
Image
The Netflix original Spanish documentary Las Cintas de Rosa Peral or Rosa Peral’s Tapes revolves around the chilling murder case of Pedro Rodríguez, a police officer in the Barcelona Police Department. Pedro’s murder case caused a significant stir, after his colleague and partner, Rosa Peral, along with her former boyfriend, Albert Lopez, were convicted of his murder. However, they had consistently pointed the finger at each other since their arrest. Now, for the first time, Rosa Peral has broken her silence by agreeing to give a revealing interview to the documentary makers, shedding light on her side of the story in a desperate bid to prove her innocence. Yet, as the investigation unfolds, the conflicting evidence only serves to deepen the mystery surrounding this perplexing case. It leaves many questions unanswered about Rosa’s involvement and the true events that led to Pedro’s tragic end.

What Happened To Rosa Peral?...
