The film was originally shot in 1967 during the band's tour of the UK for a proposed television special for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). When the film negative was processed, the print was damaged. This caused Peter Clifton to remove scenes from the film.

ABC rejected the film based on its length and the print was lost for 43 years until San Francisco music enthusiast Peter Gowdy and archivist Stephen Parr discovered the "lost film" in the Oddball Films collection prior to a screening. Clifton was contacted and sent the film by Gowdy and Parr, and Clifton was able to finish the film and screen it for the first time at the Sydney Film Festival.
