What worked:
The use of real life shots added an extra flavor to the movie especially the wide shots of Jatra. The movie marks the directorial step of Dixit which in itself is a challenging part as we are used to see him as an actor. It's a movie with some sub-layered narrative, telling the story of some complex characters. The background score stood out ,followed by the visuals. It's bold of choosing such a project and for that Dixit deserves an appreciation
What did not work:
For me, the dialogues were cliche and unnatural which is something I despise in a movie. The use of cliche social situations and overly dramatic social setting made the movie more of a sequential affair rather than an elaborate narrative focused on the depth and the study of the characters. As a result, it failed. I think the essence of the movie is somewhere lost in between making it a movie with head but not the heart. I would have loved it if the movie was better written, edited and executed as a whole.
Final verdict: watch it for the experiment
