Exclusive: While looking to break into the Oscars race with his glowingly reviewed sophomore feature A Real Pain, Jesse Eisenberg has set up his next film, an untitled musical comedy to star Julianne Moore (The Room Next Door) and Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers).

The film follows a shy woman who is unexpectedly cast in a local production of an original musical. Under the spell of the strong-willed and enigmatic director, she loses herself in the role and the high-stakes world of this community theater production. The project reunites Eisenberg with Topic Studios and Fruit Tree, with whom he worked on A Real Pain. Pic will also see him reteam with Moore after tapping her to star opposite Stranger Things‘ Finn Wolfhard in his feature directorial debut, the Fruit Tree-backed When You Finish Saving the World.

Olivia Colman’s indie South of the River Pictures has hired Emmy-winning producer Lucy Barzun Donnelly.

Donnelly will oversee film development and production activities, with a focus on nurturing new and established creators from diverse backgrounds on and off screen. In addition to the new hire, Lina Stroud is promoted to Director of Development, Film & TV. She has been with the Sister-backed company since its inception.

Donnelly began her career at John Lyons’ production company, Kalkaska, where she co-produced the Oscar-nominated drama Pieces of April and worked across the likes of Austin Powers: Goldmember. She then launched her own production company, developing and producing pics including The Go Getter and the Emmy-winning Grey Gardens, starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange. Other credits include Friends with Kids and Maggie’s Plan.

Dev Patel’s action thriller “Monkey Man” will arrive on Peacock on June 14, the streamer announced.

The film will also get a digital release on June 11, as well as 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD versions on June 25. Those physical releases will feature an alternate opening, alternate ending and a handful of deleted or extended scenes.

“Monkey Man,” Patel’s directorial debut, world premiered at SXSW in March before landing in theaters on April 5, where it collected $34 million worldwide.

Produced by Jordan Peele, the movie follows a young man (Patel) who spends his nights at an underground fight club in India, where he makes money being beaten up by more popular fighters. After years of rage bubbling up to the surface, the man embarks on a bloody quest for revenge against the city’s shady elite, and the powerful official responsible for the murder of his mother.

Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog) and Olivia Colman (The Favourite) have been tapped to star in The Roses, a reimagining of the 1989 classic The War of the Roses that Jay Roach (Bombshell) will direct for Searchlight Pictures.

Currently in development, the dark comedy’s logline is as follows: Life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Theo (Cumberbatch) and Ivy (Colman): successful careers, great kids, an enviable sex life. But underneath the façade of the perfect family is a tinderbox of competition and resentments that’s ignited when Theo’s professional dreams come crashing down.

Directed by Danny DeVito and starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, the original film adaptation of The War of the Roses was released by 20th Century Fox in 1989, garnering a BAFTA and three Golden Globe nominations, including for Best Motion Picture, among other accolades.

The Wicker Man was inspired by a 1676 engraving called "The Wicker Image" and aimed to be a more cerebral horror movie. The film was shot in 25 different locations throughout Scotland, with aerial shots of Summerisle filmed in South Africa. Christopher Lee starred in the movie for free and even paid for his own promotional tour, showing his passion for the film.

Robin Hardy's The Wicker Man is one of the most beloved cult horror films of the 1970s. Although the film was not a box office success at the time of its release, it grew in popularity through word of mouth. As such, the film currently holds an 89% certified fresh Rotten Tomatoes rating and remains one of the most beloved horror movies ever made. “May December” has been called a dark comedy and a campy take on “Persona” (though director Todd Haynes disdains the “camp” label). It inspired an unexpected Netflix meme-based social media push capitalizing on the shirtless scenes of supporting star Charles Melton, and now this tale of abuse has been nominated for, of all things, a comedy at this year’s Golden Globes. It seems that “May December” has led to every conversation but what it’s actually about: grooming.

The film tracks the fallout of Gracie, an adult woman (Julianne Moore) who seduced a 12-year-old boy (played as an adult by Charles Melton), had his children, went to jail for her misdeeds, and — eventually — married her victim. Natalie Portman portrays Elizabeth, an actress playing Gracie in a big-screen adaptation of her life.
