During the time he wrote the books Tommy Krappweis had help from Professor Rudolf Simek, an expert in nordic mythology. Simek also helped the team with costumes and buildings at the sets.

Lilian Prent is the daughter of Adriaan Prent, stepbrother of Tommy Krappweis who wrote the Mara-Novels. Adriaan Prent drew the Pictures for the novels, so Lilian was one of the first persons who read the books.
Even though her step uncle is the author/director of the books/the movie and her father drew the pictures for the books, Lilian Prent was not the first choice for playing Mara. First considered was Maja-Celiné Probst who had already made a book-trailer with Tommy Krappweis but had aged too much for playing a 14/15 year old when it came to filming.
