It’s the first week of the month and DC, Marvel, and Image Comics don't disappoint with their new releases. X-Men: From the Ashes drops another No. 1, DC's Absolute Power continues to affect heroes and villains across the universe, and another tie-in to the Energon Universe is being published.

Since these are only some of the great comic book issues being released, let's dive into all of what we can expect this week (and let's get right into it with the pick of the week!).

I’ve been waiting for this issue since it was announced. Writer Gail Simone is responsible for classic stories for characters like Deadpool and Batgirl. Uncanny X-Men will be another feather in her ever-growing classics hat.

She's taking well-known X-Men such as Rogue, Gambit, Jubilee, Nightcrawler, and Wolverine, leading them into new adventures.

Rogue, Gambit, and Wolverine reunite at the start of Gail Simone's Uncanny X-Men run, facing off against the Asgardian dragon Sadurang as their first challenge. Uncanny X-Men's star-studded team, which also includes Jubilee and Nightcrawler, will find themselves mentoring a mysterious new group of mutants called "the Outliers," while facing a threat even more dangerous than Sadurang, in the form of "the Endling." Writer Gail Simone has an epic story in store for her X-Men team, which is packed with fan-favorite characters, making it the most highly anticipated series in Marvel's line-wide X-Men relaunch.

While the MCU is currently centered on Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Victor Von Doom, one of Marvel’s most formidable villains, the comics are charting their own course. The beloved storylines and characters in Marvel’s comics are continuing to evolve, and this report will focus on that evolution.

Specifically, we’ll delve into the latest Avengers comic book storyline by Jed MacKay. The issue in question is Avengers #18, which continues from the previous installment that introduced Storm as the newest member of the Avengers.

The upcoming issue will feature a dramatic showdown between Storm and Hyperion, the Avengers’ current adversary who is portrayed as Marvel’s villainous counterpart to Superman. Additionally, our colleague Isaac Jansons from ScreenRant adds a personal perspective to the story, which we’ll also share with you here.

As mentioned, Storm recently joined the Avengers in the comics and immediately faced a formidable opponent: Hyperion.

And while the MCU is currently focused on the return of Robert Downey Jr. in the role of Victor Von Doom, one of Marvel’s biggest villains, Marvel’s comics are continuing on their own path as the storylines we love to follow are being continued, and these stories and characters are being evolved further, which is going to be the focus of this report as well.

The story we are going to focus on comes from the newest Avengers comic book storyline, which is being written by Jed MacKay. The comic book issue in question is Avengers #18, which follows up on the story in the previous issue, which introduced Storm as the newest member of the Avengers in the comics.

Namely, the upcoming issue will bring us a fierce battle between Storm and the Avengers’ current foe, Hyperion, who has already been described as Marvel’s own villainous version of Superman.

So far, X-Men’s newest saga From the Ashes has produced three comic books. X-Men by Jed MacKay, Phoenix by Stephanie Phillips, and the most recent, Nyx written by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing.

I noted that Nyx would be the best comic book of the week. It had Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), Wolverine (Laura Kinney), and random mutants that deserve a chance in the spotlight. Not only did the premiere issue not disappoint, but it also showed that this will be the best comic book of 2024. Unfortunately, it will be despised as well.

Nyx No. 1 perfectly establishes all of the former Krakoans starring in this series and what they’ve done since. Despite everything the world has done to them, Kamala and Laura are still trying to be heroes. Anole got a job as a bartender, Prodigy is a professor at a college, and Sophie Cukoo is a student living her best life.
