The whole film was shot in Nova Scotia, which stands in for Massachusetts.
This movie marks the fourth collaboration between Sigourney Weaver and Kevin Kline. They previously appeared together in Dave (1993), The Ice Storm (1997), and lent their voices to The Tale of Despereaux (2008).
The film was originally distributed by Universal in US but it was shopped to Lionsgate due to financial problems. This is the first Amblin Partners/DreamWorks not to be distributed by major studios like Paramount, Universal, Sony, Disney and WB.
The No. 9 Coffee Bar that is featured throughout the film is in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, where principal filming was done.
