Trap.Imagine a famous pop star is in your living room. They are eyeing your family photos, surveying your belongings. They are sitting at your rickety piano, treating you to a private concert. Nobody knows this celebrity is at your ordinary house, breathing your ordinary air. You can hardly believe it yourself.Strangely, this fantasy—or nightmare, depending on your attitude—transpires in not one but two hits of the summer movie season, vastly different films that share an interest in the machinations of modern celebrity. In Trap (2024), the new thriller written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the scene is fraught with suspense: Lady Raven, a megastar played by Saleka Night Shyamalan (the filmmaker’s daughter), is visiting the home of a young fan whose father is a serial killer. In Michael Showalter’s rom-com The Idea of You (2024), based on the novel by Robinne Lee, it is playful...

Jon Bon Jovi’s new bar in Nashville, dubbed Jbj’s Nashville, has opened, welcoming fans to the five-story, 37,000-square-foot spectacle of live music entertainment, which includes one mesmerizing feature: a permanent hologram of Bon Jovi himself.
The virtual Bon Jovi comes courtesy of Proto Inc., who partnered with the venue and Big Plan Holdings to install a hologram unit that would beam-in a 4k version of the rock star, as well as surprise celebrity guests. Later this year, an additional Proto unit will be installed to include Bon Jovi’s bandmates from his namesake band, as well.
Unlike the performing “holograms” that some might be familiar with, like Hatsune Miku or the Abba Voyage shows, the Proto holograms place the subject in a controlled booth, almost like a life-size Barbie doll box, which mimics uber-realistic lighting and presence.
Other locations have begun introducing Proto units, like JFK Airport in...

An AC/DC song once noted that it’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock ‘n roll. But it’s an even longer way back, particularly if vocal cord issues are in play.
Bon Jovi spoke with People at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s latest exhibit centered around his band. The singer talked about getting back to performing vocal cord surgery.
“We performed last night in Nashville, and everything was very good,” he said. “So step by step, I’m getting back to it.”
Shania Twain, who had similar voice problems, bolstered his confidence in getting the procedure done.
“She’s been my spirit sister in this,” Bon Jovi said. They shared the same doctor and Twain had the same surgery done a few years before.

Jon Bon Jovi is a snowbird — the nickname given to people of a certain age who flee their northern homes during the winter months to areas with warmer climates.
It’s late April and the famous New Jersey native is in Palm Beach, Fla.
“My license still says the great state of New Jersey,” the Bon Jovi frontman tells me on this week’s “Just for Variety” podcast. “I’m there when it’s not cold. But when it’s cold, these old bones are on the beach.”
The rocker, 62, is talking and thinking a lot about his age lately. While his Hulu docuseries, “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story,” chronicles the iconic rock band’s rise to the top, the through line of the four episodes is the singer’s struggle to overcome vocal problems in time for the group’s 40th anniversary tour.

As a child of the 1980s, I thought I knew pretty much everything I needed to know about Wham!, just as I thought I had a pretty good handle on the behind the scenes of the late-night all-star recording of “We Are the World.” But maybe that’s why I enjoyed the docs “Wham!” and “The Greatest Night in Pop” so much — a mix of the familiar with those moments of surprise.
In the case of “Wham!,” it’s how Andrew Ridgeley managed to be so gracious as his buddy George Michael went on to a massively successful solo career. In “The Greatest Night in Pop,” I learned just how instrumental Lionel Richie was in serving as traffic cop for producer Quincy Jones in creating “We Are The World” with dozens of A-list musicians over just one late night. The doc is filled with legend-help-legend moments, like when Stevie Wonder...

It’s hard to picture so many rock bands without the lead vocalist and guitarist pairings: Mick and Keith, Steven and Joe, Jon and Richie…But not all of these partnerships last. It has now been over a decade since Richie Sambora left Bon Jovi. And while he doesn’t regret the decision to leave the arena rockers after 30 years of hits and hairspray, he’s not entirely proud of how he did it.
Ahead of the second leg of their 2013 Because We Can Tour, Richie Sambora left Bon Jovi, undoubtedly the biggest change in membership for the band since forming in the early ‘80s. Los Angeles, April 28 (Ians) ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ could very well be one of the most loved songs but its creator, Jon Bon Jovi wasn’t impressed with the song initially.
The 62-year-old rock icon recently opened up about his four-decades-long career and recalled that he didn’t initially connect with the band’s chart-topping 1986 hit, reports ‘People’ magazine.
He told ‘People’, “It wasn’t that I didn’t want to record it, but I wasn’t all that impressed on the day that we wrote it.”
Upon writing the song, “it was the simple chord progression, the melodies and the lyrics” at first. “But the bass line came to life in the demo studio, when we took it back to the band and worked it up,” reflected the Grammy winner. “That’s how it became what it is”.
He further mentioned, “We knew what we wanted, we just didn’t have it,...
