Theatrical Releases You Can Stream or Rent

A mysterious presence has threatened humanity for hundreds of years as it lurks in the frozen wastes people avoid. It takes two groups of adventurers, separated in time, to defeat her and the army of demons and monsters she can summon.

The soundtrack was well thought out, well timed, interesting, and overall, very effective. The costuming was also interesting, although at times I felt I was watching folks at Renaissance Fair flashing their coolest gear. The scenery was beautiful and the cinematography seemed well done. The actors and actresses were all extremely attractive. Sounds like a good flick so far right?...nope. Most of the movie was interesting camera angles and filters following attractive folks in nice costumes running around a beautiful snowy alpine forest to an evocative sound track. There was absolutely no character or plot development, really lame and very sparse dialog (this may have been a blessing considering the weak acting), and two separate insipid plotletts running in tandem that had very little do with each other, even in the vapid ending of this slow paced, shallow film. The story&#39;s premise had a spark of imagination but it failed to catch fire and quickly cooled to a dull cinder with a bland script that didn&#39;t do anything with it other than just re-state it...the story didn&#39;t go anywhere or change any of the characters. At least in the onslaught of several non-sequitur monster minions, there was a Donnie Darko bunny monster clone and something vaguely reminiscent of toothy version of Zappa&#39;s Thing Fish. Probably the best thing to do with this movie is not to bother watching it, or just let run in the background with the sound turned down while you read a book. Be forewarned, there is no story here.

The Snow Queen

The Snow Queen (Nadia Lanfranconi) is evil with magical powers and lives off of love. She has captured the soul of Kay (Robert Amstler) a soldier in love with Gerda (Iren Levy). The Snow Queen is protected by a snow zombie that can only walk on snow. We also knows that his blood smells bad and if your garment comes in contact with it, it must come off and be washed in the river, no matter how cold it is. The film also flashes to the present where this area is being researched for its &quot;biophysical signature&quot; along with two soldiers hunting each other. The film doesn&#39;t make any sense as does any Rene Perez film, the Ed Wood heir apparent. Some of the characteristics of his films is a flip flop from modern times to the past. He did this with &quot;Little Red Riding Hood&quot; as well as &quot;Alien Showdown...&quot; and most likely a few other films on my want list. The filming location is Napa Valley and he utilized the same set for &quot;Little Red Riding Hood&quot; and a lot of the same people. The funniest aspect in this feature is that the Snow Queen has antlers tied to her head, I mean we can see the leather strings. What was that about? His actors can&#39;t act. He can&#39;t write a story that doesn&#39;t make sense sober. I watch his films because I can&#39;t turn away from a train wreak. The dragons, castle, and armies that appear on the Walmart Phase 4 DVD cover are not in the film. For some people, might be &quot;so bad it is good.&quot; A few levels below SyFy/Asylum. Guide: Nudity (Iren Levy-got to get out the blood, Aurelia Scheppers- sleeps topless, Jenny Allford- needs to shower)

If people milling about in a snowy forest for ages is your idea of the a good time then watch this bad boy. Otherwise just turn it off after 20m or so for your fill of snow covered woods. Not much else to say, the voice-overs are a bad facsimile for acting. The woods are a bad substitute for a set, and whatever the plot was couldn&#39;t really be close to resembling a story. There&#39;s not much more to say but there&#39;s a minimum character requirement so here&#39;s some movies you can watch instead if you want fantasy: Anything from the Mythica movies. Dudes and Dragons on TUBI. Classics like Conan, you know it.

I found this film very unique with the Rene Perez style to it. He has a really different way of making movies. They&#39;re not totally jaw dropping and yet they&#39;re not bad either. It&#39;s got it&#39;s own magical flavour to them. I&#39;ve seen Rene Perez films &quot;The Snow Queen&quot; &quot;Red Riding Hood&quot; and &quot;Sleeping Beauty&quot;. They all surround the gorgeous scenic forests and the giant castle with it&#39;s Medieval look to it, even though it was built in modern times. The films contain the same element of eeriness and enchantment that Hollywood used to have before the 2000&#39;s. 
This isn&#39;t true to the book. The Snow Queen is a type of spirit that drinks love and absorbs the energy of men. She seems very jealous of loving couples so she breaks them apart. 
At the same time, she is guarded by monstrous soldiers and is protected by her castle on the mountain top. There is a group of people from the future (meaning our own future) that are working in the area and have stumbled upon strange readings coming from the top of the mountain. While the future people deal with this, the Medieval characters dwindle to one, Gerda, who looks endlessly for her true love that was taken away by the Snow Queen.
I found this film slow and a little hard to follow at times but the picturesque scenes, costumes and story is more fairytale than horror. It&#39;s quite pleasant. Rene Perez should do more films like this and maybe a TV series based on fairytales.
