With its list of May 2024 releases, Amazon Prime Video is giving us the kindest gift of all: cougar Anne Hathaway.

May 2 sees the premiere of The Idea of You, a romantic-comedy that features Hathaway as a 40-year-old mom finding romance with a 24-year-old boy band singer (Nicholas Galitzine). Having saved the medium of film forever, Prime Video is celebrating with some big time library titles this month as well. American Fiction and BlacKkKlansman arrive on May 14 and will be followed by Creed and Pearl: An X-traordinary Origin Story on May 16.

For its TV offerings, Prime is leading off with Outer Range season 2 on May 16. This James Brolin sci-fi Western will continue the mysteries of the strange happenings on Thanos’ ranch. Reality TV fans will be able to enjoy the Daniel Tosh-hosted competition series The Goat on May 9.

Everybody knows the story of Lizzie Borden. She’s been the subject of rock operas, movies, and TV shows and one very influential nursery rhyme. CBS’s “Lizzie Borden Took an Axe” asks “What if everything told in the past about the famed Lizzie Borden case is wrong?” Erin Moriarty and 48 Hours will investigate the double homicide that captured the nation on Saturday, March 28 at 10 p.m.

The investigative series takes a “fresh look at a very cold case that turns up surprising results” according to the press release. Borden was 32 years old when she was acquitted hacking her father and stepmother to death in 1892. Lizzie became the prime suspect because her sister Emma was out of town and the housekeeper were the only other people in the locked home at the time of the killing. Borden denied having anything to do with the murder but authorities were concerned with her demeanor following the crime.

Christina Ricci knows people judge her. She grew up in the public eye as the Goth girl, the alternative chick, the youthful indie darling. For her, those tacit critiques just provide the excuse to execute another hard turn.

“I’m a natural contrarian. So anytime someone tries to tell me what I am, I immediately change and I’m something else,” she said. “I can’t help it; I’m a total asshole in that respect. I never give people that. Sometimes it’s terrible and I should really just allow people to view me the way they want to, but I have a real desire and drive to define myself and to not be defined by others.”

Of course, you do! Especially games that involve torturous death! Lionsgate has released some more goodies for all you Saw fans out there! We have a new featurette, clip, and a couple TV spots for the eighth film in the horror franchise, Jigsaw. They give us a glimpse of the nightmarish terror that awaits audiences and unravel the philosophy of the iconic killer Jigsaw.

I don't know about this movie. I was done with this franchise and now Lionsgate is trying to lure me back in with the return of a killer that's supposed to be dead! When talking about the upcoming film, co-director Michael Spierig told EW:

Actor John Dunsworth, who played photographer Dave Teagues on Syfy’s fantasy drama Haven, died Monday after battling a short illness. He was 71.

Dunsworth’s daughter Sarah, who co-starred with him on the Canadian mockumentary series Trailer Park Boys, announced the news on Twitter.

“With heavy and broken hearts, the family of John F. Dunsworth would like to let people know that our amazing husband, father and grandfather John Dunsworth has passed away,” she wrote. “John left this world peacefully after a short and unexpected illness. The family would like to request that our privacy is respected during this time of grief.

The first poster has been released for the next film in the Saw franchise. It was recently revealed that the film would be called Jigsaw, after the crazed killer that made the horror franchise famous. This is the eighth Saw film and it comes seven years after the last film, Saw: The Final Chapter, which obviously wasn't the final chapter. 

Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer. But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade. Or has an apprentice picked up the mantle of Jigsaw, perhaps even someone inside the investigation?

Franchise star Tobin Bell is set to return to the franchise in some capacity. He will actually be at San Diego Comic-Con doing autographs. I imagine we'll end up getting our first trailer at the convention.

Another actor has been revealed to be a part of the deadly games of Saw: Legacy.

Deadline reports that the Saw: Legacy cast includes Mandela Van Peebles (2016’s Roots, We the Party), who is part of a cast that also includes the recently announced Laura Vandervoort (Bitten) and Hannah Anderson (Lizzie Borden Took an Ax). Mandela is the son of actor and filmmaker Mario Van Peebles.

Variety previously reported that Saw: Legacy was filmed in November and is currently in post-production. Scheduled for an October 27th, 2017 release, Saw: Legacy was directed by Michael and Peter Spierig (Predestination, Daybreakers, Undead) from a screenplay by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger.

Lionsgate is looking to play another gruesome game on the big screen with a new Saw movie, and now the first two cast members have joined the ranks of the eighth film in the franchise of bone-crunching snares, flesh-ripping traps, and malevolent mind games.

The final guild/industry group to declare nominees did so this afternoon as the Motion Picture Sound Editors (Mpse) spoke up with a roll call of players for the 62nd Golden Reel Awards. On the film side of things, "Birdman" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" had the best showing with three nominations each. I've been wondering if the latter could slide into Oscar play this year, but it's hard to gauge here, as "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" had a nice Mpse showing, too. In the effects/foley category, "Fury" is featured as well, also a strong possibility to pop up. All other expected players ("American Sniper," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Unbroken," etc.) are featured. We'll see how the sound branch shakes it all out tomorrow but I'm a little more confused by where they'll end up going than usual, I must say. Check out...

Lizzie Borden is coming back swinging (an ax). Lifetime has just ordered an additional two episodes of The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, in which Christina Ricci reprises her role as the infamous real-life murder suspect, who was acquitted of the double homicide of her father and stepmother in 1892—which was depicted in last year's original movie Lizzie Borden Took An Ax.

“The Lizzie Borden Chronicles” is a “what if” follow-up to 2014’s “Lizzie Borden Took an Ax,” director Stephen Kay told reporters at Friday’s Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour.

Last January’s Lifetime TV movie, which grabbed 4.4 million viewers, told the true story of the titular character, a young woman tried and acquitted in the 1892 murders of her father and stepmother — and this series turns her real-life story into historical fiction.

In other words, Borden keeps on killing — history be damned.

Earlier this year Lifetime gave us the Christina Ricci vehicle Lizzie Borden Took an Axe. They followed that up with another marquee genre effort Big Driver which was originally penned in short story form from horror maestro Stephen King.

Ricci is reprising the role of Lizzie Borden in Lifetime’s Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles, according to Entertainment Weekly. The miniseries will be a fictionalized retelling of Borden’s life after she was acquitted of murdering her father and stepmother with an ax. In The Fall River Chronicles, people around Borden will mysteriously die, drawing the attention of detective Charlie Siringo, who will be played by Cole Hauser.

“This series will take viewers further down Lizzie Borden’s dark path, revealing what many people suspected about her mysterious life,” said Lifetime VP and Gm Rob Sharenow.

Clea Duvall, who appeared in the Lifetime biopic about Borden’s suspected murders of her parents, will also return to play the alleged murderess’ sister.

Thankfully studios aren’t as willing to give Eli Roth money these days and this ugly trend has been somewhat curbed – minus the upcoming The Green Inferno, which, in all fairness, looks rather tasty. Massachusetts director Nick Gomez (Drowning Mona) is more used to working on television shows than feature films and it shows in Lizzie Borden Took an Axe, a Lifetime television movie based on the life of Lizzie Borden.

Christina Ricci is an actress I enjoy sometimes, but her performances range from good to poor depending on the movie she is in, and sadly this is not one of her better roles. The cast isn’t a bad one, with Clea Duvall appearing as Lizzie’s sister, Emma Borden. It just all feels very forced, which is a shame because the tale is one that, with better casting, a deeper budget, more delicate writing and a steadier director’s hand, could be very good indeed.

We're back on the clock with this post-Comic-Con and there are three new titles to alert you to with this update. First, there's Lizzie Borden Took An Axe. This is that Lifetime original movie starring Christina Ricci and Clea DuVall that aired earlier this year. Didn't hear good things, but here's the synopsis in case you're interested: On a scorching, hot summer day in 1892 in Fall River, Massachusetts, Lizzie Borden (Ricci) returns home to the house she shares with her father Andrew, stepmother Abby and sister Emma (DuVall).

Christina Ricci is expecting her first child! The actress debuted her growing baby bump as she and husband James Heerdegen landed at Lax on Friday, and her rep confirmed to Popsugar on Saturday that Christina "is pregnant." The duo stuck together as they hopped off their flight and headed to a waiting car. Christina and James got married in October, and she shared a beautiful picture of her wedding gown shortly after they tied the knot. Recently she starred in the Lifetime movie Lizzie Borden Took an Ax and started an Internet craze with "riccing." Christina's been in the spotlight for years - take a trip down memory lane with all the reasons you loved her in the '90s.

Lifetime has begun early development on a film documenting the incredible true story of Michelle Knight.

Tentatively titled The Michelle Knight Story, the film will explore the story of Knight, who in 2002 at the age of 21 was abducted by Ariel Castro in Cleveland and held as a prisoner in his home alongside Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus for over 11 years before escaping last May. At the time of her kidnapping, Knight was a single mom fighting for custody of her two-year-old son.

From philandering president to criminal polygamist -- What would Olivia Pope think?

"Scandal" star Tony Goldwyn -- President Fitzgerald Grant himself -- is set to play the infamous Warren Jeffs in Lifetime's upcoming movie "Outlaw Prophet," THR reports. The film tells the true story of Jeffs, the leader of a Fundamentalist Mormon polygamist sect who ranked on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted List for more than a year. After eluding authorities, he was ultimately apprehended by a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper.

"Outlaw Prophet" is based on Stephen Singular's best-selling book "When Men Become Gods," which tracks Jeffs' rise to power following the death of his father, Rulon Jeffs. Academy Awards executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron ("Bonnie & Clyde") will serve as EPs on the film alongside Judith Verno ("Lizzie Borden Took an Ax"). Lifetime has yet to set a premiere date.

Lifetime’s “The Gabby Douglas Story,” based on the gold-medal-winning Olympic gymnast, pulled in 3.8 million total viewers on Saturday. Also read: Lifetime’s Lizzie Borden Movie Claims 4.4 Million Viewers The original movie fell short of the 4.4 million total viewers Lifetime’s “Lizzie Borden Took an Ax” drew the previous week, but like “Lizzie Borden,” “The Gabby Douglas Story” was also the night’s most tweeted non-sports program, according to Nielsen SocialGuide. The film averaged 1.4 million viewers in the Adult 25-54 demographic and 1.2 million in Lifetime’s key Women 18-49 demo. Following the fictionalized movie, an hour-long documentary about Douglas (above right) averaged.

Christina stopped by our La studios to explain the movie's surprising nude scene and talk about the Internet craze she inadvertently launched with a recent Instagram picture.
